Editor’s Note: After asking you what you were most interested in seeing more of on Design Milk, we decided to launch a brand new regular column called Design Store(y) , which will spotlight brick-and-mortar retail shops from around the world. We’ll get an intimate look at the products on the shelves and the store-y (ha! get it?) behind them, direct from the store owners and managers themselves. Perhaps you’ll get the chance to visit one of the features stores yourself one day, but if not, at least you can take our virtual tour. This first article is a bit of an oddball, as it features a shop within a shop, but we’re so excited to have the inside scoop on this unique shopping experience.

Part furniture, part art object, part art installation, they’re quite beautiful, as are the words that describes the concept for each piece. Object-E: “The unique name of things limit the range of product’s shape and function, but above all, the fact that there exists stereotyped function in accordance with each unique name suppresses my imagination.
Nick Johnson, owner of new Seattle-based design company Johnson House Design , has released his first product: Flat Clock . The clock is a customizable modern wall clock that’s created completely out of your own custom specifications using the Flat Clock interactive website. Be prepared to spend some time on FlatClock.com making a ton of fun designs – I know I just wasted at least an hour. The first step is to log on to the website and “build your clock”: Then you can customize a ton of features including clock hand style and length, back color, and pattern. Once you’ve chosen your pattern, you can skew and randomize it, making it completely custom

Winnipeg-based designer Thom Fougere recently completed the Tyndall Table , which debuted in January at IDS12 in Toronto, Canada. At just over 11 inches high, the low-profile table appears to be floating on its steel structure. The top is made of Tyndall stone that resembles the local topography and is quarried in the Winnipeg area. The natural texture comes from marine creatures burrowing into the stone, which gives it nice dimension. The stone is then planed to a relatively smooth state allowing for its unusual character to remain
