Dutch designer Dik Scheepers has created the Sine Cabinet , a cabinet made of oak, PVC, and brass that comes with a story. Most cabinets (and closets, sideboards, drawers, you name it) start out with items relatively in place and with some semblance of order. Over time, they turn into enormous catchalls for anything and everything and end up being messy storage boxes. Prize possessions, and sometimes secrets, are tucked away behind closed doors and only occasionally do they see the light of day, like on the holidays when family is coming over. The idea behind Sine is much similar to that of these storage places, a cabinet that will change over time.

Materials: BESTA, FRAMSTA, NUMERAR Description: I designed this desk to get all my computer equipment and cables up off the floor, behind cabinet doors, and leave my work surface completely clear. A major part of this project was also incorporating the analog meters which show my computer’s status. The desk is built mostly from modified IKEA parts (see the end for a complete parts list). There are wall-mounted cabinets in two depths. The lower center cabinets are cut to allow my monitors to be wall-mounted; the upper row holds my backup hard drives, video game consoles, speaker controller, UPS, printer, and other devices.

Retrofitting a PAX into a closet

Materials: PAX wardrobe , LYNGDAL doors, wood trim, mitre saw, table saw, chop saw, nails, screws Description: After looking at PAX wardrobes and also at several nice hacks here , we decided to remove our 1950s built in closet and replace it with a set of PAX wardrobes. Our closet measured 58″ across, so two 29 1/2″ wardrobe pieces would be close. We decided to maximize the closet so we chose the taller wardrobes. To make these fit, we had to enlarge the opening of the original closet by cutting up several inches, and also taking the plaster off the left side of the closet.

Stainless Steel Kitchens: Love This Look?

Stainless steel appliances are one thing, but stainless steel appliances and cabinets? I don’t know if I could do it…could you?

With a stainless steel fridge, microwave, stove, toaster and coffee pot, I don’t think I could deal with anymore stainless steel. Not because of the look but because of the obsessive cleaning that takes over me when I see one smudge on any of the above items. Once the stainless steel polish is out, I’m a mad woman running around to make sure every inch of stainless is completely clean and doesn’t have that extra residue that some polishes (or maybe just the one I use?) leave.

While I love the look of all stainless steel kitchens, mentally I couldn’t handle it! And when I have kids? Forget it!

So, how about you – do you love this look or not so much?
