One of the coolest NYC design stores, The Future Perfect , launched a new private label furniture collection at ICFF with seating and lighting design by Lindsey Adelman, Charles de Lisle, Jason Miller and Russell Pinch. The collection begins with three sofas, a chair and a chandelier that are more transitional than cutting edge modern, with a focus on traditional craftsmanship and methodology.

Geometric Candelabra: Chandelier TAIJITU by Barnabé Ribay

French designer Barnabé Ribay created the TAIJITU candelabra inspired by the Chinese philosophy that life is based on a fundamental value that consists of two principles both complementary and opposed. This is probably more widely known as yin and yang, which is just one of many visual representations of Taijitu.

Bright Beads is a lighting collection by Australian designer Coco Reynolds of Marz Designs . The core range includes six pendant configurations named Aztec, Abacus, Art, Aleenta, Africa and Alice. They can be grouped together to form a chandelier or used as a single pendant. Handcrafted from FSC-certified wood (oak, walnut, maple, and ash), each turned wooden bead is a testament to traditional craft, something that Coco Reynolds is very passionate about. We spotted the work of Al-Hamad Design at ICFF this year and really loved the unique approach they have with their designs. They definitely think outside the box with innovative (and sometimes quirky) twists on furniture design making each of their pieces memorable. Here are some of our favorites: Little Oyster is a side table that converts to a chair by lifting the tabletop up.

Bird Poop Chandelier by Wyatt Little

I am cracking up over the title of this chandelier, called the Bird Poop Chandelier, made by Wyatt Little . Paying homage to his elementary schooldays, when he found himself standing below a beautiful Oak tree, shortly after being pooped on by a rather inconsiderate bird. Even though he says it was a regrettable moment, he took this particular memory and created something beautiful and lighthearted. Having been pooped on two separate occasions both while riding inside of a car , I can relate to the whimsy of this piece

Hanging Around at the Philadelphia Museum of Art

Sunday, I took some time to check out the Hanging Around exhibit of permanent collection of modern and contemporary lighting at the Philadelphia Museum of Art . Here are a few of my favorites from the exhibition: First, I love the Lüster Chandelier, a tongue-in-cheek 2D LED chandelier by German Ingo Maurer. Also by Ingo Maurer is this 2003 lamp called “Wo bist du, Edison?” (“Where Are You, Edison?”).
