    Studio Dunn debuted a new light fixture at ICFF this year called Sorenthia . The fixture was inspired by kelp’s long blades and beaded joints and the brass form combines the beauty of nature with sharp, industrial lines. Two fixtures Constructed of brass and steel elements, the simplicity of the design lets the brass finish really stand out. The elongated bulbs continue the beautiful linear quality that sets the piece apart. I love that you can literally configure multiple units together to create a customized fixture.

Designed by Sebastian Bergne for Luceplan Spa , the unconventional lamp uses what’s known as “tuneable” LED lighting to adjust the white light temperature from 2400˚ to 3500˚ kelvin.

    Although it looks like a traditional lamp, the Lampada is actually 4 millimeters thick. Available in a floor lamp model shown above, the Lampada is also made in a floor lamp version, which is shown in the second image here. The floor lamp Lampada has the option of standing free on a stand, or it can be mounted to the wall.

    The purpose of the Lampada is to provide an ambient light source with an energy efficient electroluminescent sheet.

    The Lampada table lamp and the Lampada floor lamp are made by Show & Tell Design. Based out of the United Kingdom, Show & Tell is an independent design studio that manufactures furniture and lighting. The Lampada is suitable for both residential and commercial use.

    The newest design from Strala is called Calmares, a light sculpture in two sizes that was designed to include several dozen energy-saving fluorescent tubes, each of which consumes just 24 watts of energy. “Calmares I” has 73 connected bulbs to form a spherical light and the smaller “Calmares II” has 13. The clustering and precise ordering allows the energy-saving bulbs to become graceful objects of beauty. The lamps resemble a freeze frame of an exploding firework or a starry sky, emitting soft, warm light

    Sunday, I took some time to check out the Hanging Around exhibit of permanent collection of modern and contemporary lighting at the Philadelphia Museum of Art . Here are a few of my favorites from the exhibition: First, I love the Lüster Chandelier, a tongue-in-cheek 2D LED chandelier by German Ingo Maurer. Also by Ingo Maurer is this 2003 lamp called “Wo bist du, Edison?” (“Where Are You, Edison?”).

    As someone who enjoys wine of both the red and white varieties, I was pretty thrilled to come across the Light Sommelier. An interactive wine bottle and glass, it lights up and dims with different motions. As you pour the wine from bottle to glass, the glass lights up. Tip the glass over and the light dims. The intensity of the light even varies by how much wine you pour. So the more full your glass is, no only the happier you are but the brighter your glass is.
