Happy Friday! Are you ready for Valentine’s Day? How about the weekend? We’ll start our weekly six links off with some Valentine’s Day decor above. I wouldn’t mind if my foyer looked like that all year round! Have you noticed an abundance of neon lately? (I write this wearing a very neon pink shirt.) From clothing to home decor, it seems to be popping up here and there – and painting a door bright neon is a fun way to incorporate it! On the contrary, I’m also loving soft palettes lately – like this grey and light pink combination above.

Editor’s Note: After asking you what you were most interested in seeing more of on Design Milk, we decided to launch a brand new regular column called Design Store(y) , which will spotlight brick-and-mortar retail shops from around the world. We’ll get an intimate look at the products on the shelves and the store-y (ha! get it?) behind them, direct from the store owners and managers themselves. Perhaps you’ll get the chance to visit one of the features stores yourself one day, but if not, at least you can take our virtual tour. This first article is a bit of an oddball, as it features a shop within a shop, but we’re so excited to have the inside scoop on this unique shopping experience.

Are you all football, commercials and M.I.A.’d out after yesterday’s Super Bowl? I think I am. Or maybe I’m just ready to jump into some romantical and whimsical Valentine’s Day fun. It’s just about 8 days away, so there’s still some time to order gifts online and have them by next Tuesday.

Since I haven’t done an Etsy round-up in quite a while, I scoured the site for all things heart-related. My favorite have to be the heart smittens! Such a cute name. Would you be able to get your significant other to wear those? I doubt mine would, but you never know!

What heart-shaped items have you bought for Valentine’s Day this year?

Lately, I’ve been purchasing a salad similar to this one here at a local cafe by my office for $6 a day. I’ve been telling myself that it’s nice to support a local business, but then of course, I’m think “hello you’ve got to support yourself too!” Sometimes, after I cook dinner and clean up the kitchen, the last thing I want to do is make myself lunch. But on the other hand, really – how hard is it to throw a salad together in a tupperware? And that entire paragraph is a conversation I have with myself approximately four times a week. So, I’m just wondering about everyone else out there – are you in a similar situation

And that entire paragraph is a conversation I have with myself approximately four times a week. So, I’m just wondering about everyone else out there – are you in a similar situation? I can assume that the situation differs a bit for those that work at home, but then perhaps buying lunch out can be seen as an excuse to get out of the house. Hmm..

Well, whatever your situation may be – do you bring/make your lunch most of the time or do you just buy it? I’d love to know!

Winnipeg-based designer Thom Fougere recently completed the Tyndall Table , which debuted in January at IDS12 in Toronto, Canada. At just over 11 inches high, the low-profile table appears to be floating on its steel structure. The top is made of Tyndall stone that resembles the local topography and is quarried in the Winnipeg area. The natural texture comes from marine creatures burrowing into the stone, which gives it nice dimension. The stone is then planed to a relatively smooth state allowing for its unusual character to remain

Today we’re talking bedroom lighting. There are plenty of ways to light up this room – but we’re only focusing on two. So if you had absolutely no other choices, which would you rather….pendant lamps hanging on each side of the bed or one large chandelier in the center of the room? With bedside pendant lamps, you can go big and bold enough so that they are the focal point of the room, as seen in both of the example images above. But, would you still need other lighting around the room?

Today we’re talking bedroom lighting. There are plenty of ways to light up this room – but we’re only focusing on two. So if you had absolutely no other choices, which would you rather….pendant lamps hanging on each side of the bed or one large chandelier in the center of the room?

With bedside pendant lamps, you can go big and bold enough so that they are the focal point of the room, as seen in both of the example images above. But, would you still need other lighting around the room? Depending on the size of your bedroom, you probably would. Perhaps some track lighting from the ceiling, or various table lamps and floor lamps scattered around would do the trick.

A chandelier in the center of the home gives you the freedom to bring the drama right into the center of the room. You can still add table lamps to your nightstands, but I would probably go for a subdued lamp as to not take away from the fabulosity of a glamorous chandelier or large pendant light.

But it all depends on personal preference – so tell me, would you rather bedside pendant lamps or a large chandelier if you had to choose for your bedroom?
