Designer Arik Levy has dreamed up the latest light for Leucos called Beamer. The fixtures can be hung as a single pendant or grouped together at various angles and configurations. The pendants are made of borosilicate glass with a chrome-plated finish and polished chrome stem, making the fixtures semi-transparent when lit. The overall shape reminds me of a futuristic Maglite flashlight, but much more polished and sleek. I love that you can play with the angles that they are suspended at to create really cool clusters of lights

Over the weekend, I was at a restaurant with gigantic drum pendants and I absolutely fell in love. I have a fairly large drum light in my kitchen as it is, but this one was so big and bold I couldn’t stop staring at it.

The drum lights above are large, but not as large as the ones that I saw over the weekend. I guess that makes sense though, because something that is large enough for a commercial space may not necessarily work as well in a residential location. Unless you have a gigantic kitchen. Which I do not. [Yet!]

The arrangement of four black drum shades over the kitchen island is a really stunning look, especially as they hang from the skylights with wooden planks.

What do you think of oversized drum pendants? Do you love this look for a home or do you prefer them in commercial settings?

Materials: Knappa Pendant Lamp

Description: I took three Knappa Klover pendants and hard-wired them into the ceiling with porcelain canopies from the Burnside fixture I successfully begged Rejuvenation to sell to me. (They no longer do this, because too many people hack them but I’d bought one before they instituted that policy and convinced them I wasn’t remaking Burnside, which was true.)

The pendants were cool, but they got covered with dust and the plastic parts kept falling away from one another. Also, it was nearly impossible to change the lightbulbs. So I took off the plastic parts and had bare globe lightbulbs for a while. Until this week when I saw mesh wire candleholders in the Crate & Barrel catalogue. I ordered 3 of them, at under $8 each, and voila! The bottom piece that holds the tea light candle conveniently screwed right out. I removed the wire hanger from the tea light holder, slipped it up over the light bulb and Ikea socket, reattached the hanger and twist-tied it that to the Ikea pendant cord.
