Note Design Studio has cooked up a lot of new products for Milan Design Week, but my favorite has to be this wall storage unit for Seletti . Called Suburbia , the unit is made of wood with brass detail and features a cork board, built-in mirror, hooks, shelving, and a selection of various sized cubbies to hold anything from pens, to makeup brushes, craft supplies, or even toys. If you look closely, you’ll see that the entire unit resembles an aerial view of a town. Each cubby represents a house or sections of a building. So cute!

Walls of Shelves: Love this Look?

Dressing up a bare wall with a large shelving unit can totally change the decor of a room – in a good way, of course! Not only does it enhance the open wall, but it provides endless decor options. You can fill with it colorful books of all shapes and sizes, souvenirs from your travels, family portraits, drawings and sculptures made by your children.

To take a few tips from the images above, you can put storage boxes – to have storage within storage, arrange canvas paintings, display collectibles, typography and to store your record collection.

As far as installation goes, you can install a built-in shelving system or just place a free-standing unit against the wall. Personally, I prefer the free-standing option, like these from Lucce at Interior Addict, because if I ever move – they can come along with me!

For those not interested in covering a whole wall in shelving, there are so many different shapes, sizes and arrangements available – the possibilites are really endless.

Dutch designer Floris Wubben is known for his mixture of modern and natural designs and the latest is Potato Family , a collection of shelving units that resemble potatoes. Little Potato – first image also The design was inspired by childhood figures that kids made out of chestnuts and potatoes. (Remember making those by jabbing toothpicks into the potato for the arms and legs?) The playfulness of that activity comes through with things like how the polished stainless steel legs are positioned and the skewed shape of each shelving cavity. Twin Potato The Potato Family was constructed in collaboration with artist Bauke Fokkema. Twin Potato – detail I love how the texture of the Dutch Fir wood mimics that of a peeled potato.

Design Store(y): Still House

Design Store(y) heads to the East Village this holiday season to tour Still House , owned by Pratt graduate Urte Tylaite. The 300-square-foot sliver of a space was designed by Brooklyn-based firm Silva/Bradshaw, and features wood plank floors, a dropped wood plank ceiling, narrow wood plank shelving along the walls, and plywood display cases down the middle. Tylaite featurees items from local designers, plus pieces from Scandinavia and Japan. Still House opened its doors a bit over 18 months ago; we’ve been dying to get inside. Limit Bookshelf Divider by Alp Nuhoglu

Composed of 36 boxes that are 36cm square, Limit is a shelving unit designed by Alp Nuhoglu that actually has, well, no limits. You can stack and place the boxes any way you wish, both horizontally and vertically, to create any number of combinations to make the perfect shelf or room divider. The finished product not only is great for storage, it creates a pretty cool optical effect in the room giving it an almost sculptural quality. Limit is available through Delta Ofis . London-based designer Andy Martin will show his new exciting furniture project at Meet My Project in Milan. This shelving system, called Undergraduate, is a reinvention and reimagining of a classic building bricks made of wood that are stacked to form shelves and nooks. Andy Martin took inspiration from the brick-built shelving used in student accommodations.

Konnex

Konnex is an innovative shelving system designed by Florian Gloss.

Each set of Konnex includes three basic modules in small, medium and large sizes. Each piece has slits that can be inserted into the side walls of the other cubes to create different arrangements.

Multiple sets of varying sizes can be pieced together to continuously expand on the Konnex shelving unit.

Konnex is in production by Müller Möbelwerkstätten. Designer Florian Gloss is an interior and product designer based out of Germany.

Today I have even more cool shelving for you!! The 45 Degrees Shelving Unit is the work of industrial designer Alberto Caputo. Caputo is devoted to the product design phase of all of his furniture and uses cubist philosophy to break each larger idea into manageable piece and concepts.
