Maxim Maximov is a Russian a industrial designer whose newest project is a lamp called Sixties. Inspired by the designers of the 1960s, specifically Dieter Rams, Maximov created a simple functional plastic lamp that resembles a pipe or bendy straw. Design legend Ross Lovegrove was the keynote speaker at this year’s IDSwest conference in Vancouver and our correspondent Aaron De Simone of I HEART LUXE sat down with Ross to talk about what he’s up to, balance, self-doubt, and the never-ending design to-do list. Lovegrove’s first solo show in Italy, Endless , recently opened at Cardi Black Box gallery in Milan, featuring fine art works deriving from Lovegrove’s personal research brought forward with the Liquid Collection, which was included in the exhibition Endurance at Phillips De Pury in New York back in 2007.

As part of the DMY 2011 Asia Exhibition tour , which presents innovative German design objects and products at seven different fairs and festivals in Asia, Adam+Harborth will show their Babel paper holder, available in two sizes. The small size is a desktop version, holding small papers, business cards, and other manageable notes. The large Babel can hold newspapers and catalogs, and it can even function as a stool. Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec created Piani for Italian company Flos , a light with a flat base and top available in multiple colors. The lamp’s enlarged base functions as a tray table to hold objects like pens, coins, paper clips, keys or eyeglasses. The Grand Canyon Table by Amit Apel has a decorative crack from one corner to the center, with blue-tinted glass in between, acting like a glass river. I think this is kind of neat. STICK by BCU postgraduate Jiaqi Zhou is an eco-friendly wall treatment made of flexible stick-shaped ornaments. An alternative to the usual wallpaper or decals, the STICKs are flexible with special textures and can be used to create your very own wallscape. They can even be used to display or store items like photos or keys.
