6 Different Ways to Use Mason Jars for Home Decor & Creative Gifts

Glint Lamp by Galula Studio

The Glint lamp is a nifty little two-part design that joins a single lighting component with an angular metal storage holder. The light, designed by Filipa Mendes and Gustavo Macedo for Galula Studio , features a cork covered socket with super strong magnets embedded in the surface that let it adhere to any iron surface, like the storage holder it comes with. The metal contraption holds your spot in your book, acts as a magazine rack, or a storage space for your files. The magnets allow you to adjust the light in any direction you want on the metal surface to aid your reading or whatever your lighting needs are.

Beamer Light by Arik Levy for Leucos

Designer Arik Levy has dreamed up the latest light for Leucos called Beamer. The fixtures can be hung as a single pendant or grouped together at various angles and configurations. The pendants are made of borosilicate glass with a chrome-plated finish and polished chrome stem, making the fixtures semi-transparent when lit. The overall shape reminds me of a futuristic Maglite flashlight, but much more polished and sleek. I love that you can play with the angles that they are suspended at to create really cool clusters of lights

São Paulo Collection by Studio Swine

The London and São Paulo based Studio Swine created the São Paulo Collection  of lighting and furniture that was inspired by tropical modernism movement of the 1950′s in Brazil. Scouring the city for waste materials, the duo counted on the fact that São Paulo is known as the “Aluminum Capital” and let that be a source of inspiration for their unique series, while also letting them explore the potential of material. The collection was developed over a four-month residency that was produced for Coletivo Amor de Madre Gallery and sponsored by Heineken

Milan 2013: An Interview with Michael Anastassiades VIDEO

I was very lucky while I was at Salone del Mobile to get the chance to interview one of my favorite lighting designers, Michael Anastassiades . First I asked him about the inspiration behind his two new collections for Flos … Then we talked about his approach to design… You talked about the importance of ‘honestly expressed materials’ in your work – could you tell me about how that has informed this range? It’s important, when you’re designing something for a company like Flos. I’ve worked in my own collections in a very experimental way as my personal platform. The creation of my own brand and my own company was very much about achieving the freedom to express what I believed in, in my own way

Stick Lamp Collection by Matali Crasset

Matali Crasset is no stranger to designing beautiful lighting. Some of Crasset’s lighting is among the most luxurious, and what I like most about this new Stick collection that Crasset has designed for Fabbian Illuminazione , is that it has a bit of a crafty feel to it without losing the luxury or quality. Exploring space, shape and shadow, this lighting collection has it all: a table lamp, a wall lamp, four floor lamps and five suspension lamps featuring four different diffuser shapes

Vederlicht Hanging Lamp by Daniel Hulsbergen

Based on a childhood love of model glider planes, Daniel Hulsbergen created the Vederlicht (Featherlight) out of the same materials as the planes and using the same technique. Not being able to afford the costly hobby as a kid fueled his fascination with it to this day, so turning it into lighting only seemed natural. Just like the glider’s wings, the light is constructed out of Balsawood and Oracover (a heat shrink film), making it extremely lightweight.
