Ravenscroft Desk by Leonhard Pfeifer

London furniture designer Leonhard Pfeifer just released the Ravenscroft Desk for Woodman at Maison et Objet . The functional form of this desk is emphasized by its simple design and pure materials. Gorgeous from anny angle, the Ravenscroft desk nods to traditional farmhouse and craft styles with its crossed legs, but its sleek design also fits perfectly into any modern interior. This would be the perfect writing desk in a living room or bedroom, but has enough storage and utility for your home office

Oink! Piggy Bank

The Oink Piggy Bank by APR Design Studio is made of porcelain with an oversized snout – the perfect place for putting your pennies (and big enough for bills, too). I’m seriously considering one of these for Little Milk’s nursery .

CandleStacks by Victoria Delaney

British designer/silversmith Victoria Delaney introduced a brass version of her classic-meets-contemporary CandleStacks at the London Design Festival last week. A modern take on the sort of candlestick one might find on a table in New England, Delaney lines the spindles of her creations with interchangeable, lacquered timber shapes reminiscent of the beads on an abacus. If monochromatic is not your thing, Delaney also lines the brass with tactile wooden shapes in primary hues, which she intermingles with pieces in natural finishes.  The top and base are fabricated from soldered spun metal components

Modular Seating by Studio Lawrence

Furniture designers Patrick de Louwere and Bart Eijking of Studio Lawrence exhibited To Gather , an ingenious modular seating system at the London Design Festival last month in six new Kvadrat coverings. The British debut follows the product’s premier at the Interieur show in Belgium last year , where the Dutch duo put forth the forms upholstered in a dozen different shades of 100% wool felt. LDF 2011: Origin Contemporary Craft Fair

This is Origin ’s second year of being part of the London Design Festival rather than a stand-alone event, and its second year at Old Spitalfields Market . It still has a slightly different feel to many of the events on offer, appealing to a slightly older crowd, and focusing exclusively on contemporary craft. It attracts some wonderfully quirky exhibitors – these Azurer pots (above) were so organic they almost seemed to be growing! And I’ve never seen anything quite like Clare Knox-Bentham ’s creations, which are hand “drawn” using plastic extrusion techniques. There was also a lot of very beautiful, quite understated ceramics, like Noa Ceramics ’ work (above), which is hand-crafted using antique Indian printing blocks and the pieces below from Derek Wilson , Kerry Hastings and Linda Bloomfield

Concrete Vase by Xiral Segard

Designer Xiral Segard exhibited her concrete Konkurïto vase during Paris Design Week earlier this month. The modular design was inspired by the Japanese bento box (minus the vegetables). Fabricated wholly in concrete, it consists of  four modular stackable elements, plus a cover. You can stack them in whatever order you wish, and place the water reservoir at either the top or bottom, depending on the size of your bouquet.

The Efeet Collection by Dylan Kendall

Dylan Kendall , philanthropist behind Hollywood Arts , just launched her first collection of ceramics called Efeet. Isn’t it adorable? Plus, $1 of every item sold also goes to support Hollywood Arts.

Escapefromsofa

Istanbul design studio Escapefromsofa launched some new pieces at Tent London last week. They look to be 1960s-70s inspired to me. What do you think?

LDF 2011: Top Ten from TENT London

Based in the Old Truman Brewery in Brick Lane, Shoreditch, Tent London is the unofficial HQ for East London’s Design Festival. The antithesis of the V&A (the official LDF “hub”), this is often the place to spot emerging trends and new talent. Here are the best bits… 1. Penelope Jordan ’s three-dimensional textile art draws you in for a closer look. 2
