Color Moves: Art and Fashion by Sonia Delaunay

The Hague 20100623; Photo: © private collection A new exhibition opens today at Cooper-Hewitt , National Design Museum in New York: Color Moves: Art and Fashion by Sonia Delaunay . Delaunay was an abstract painter, colorist and textile designer who lent her talents to many industries. As the first major US museum exhibition of Delaunay’s work in 30 years, the exhibition celebrates Delaunay’s textiles and fashion contributions and will include more than 300 works on view are garments and textiles, with correlating designs, fashion illustrations and period photographs.

Kah-Du Collection by Ilanel Design Studio

This series of hand-crafted lamps is based on a mathematical composition of a high-impact pattern. The kah-du collection by Ilanel Design Studio is reminiscent of the Op Art movement of the 1960s. Each lamp is visually striking and appears to be breathing. Each consists of a powder-coated wireframe with French Gros Grain ribbon

D\ZEN Furniture by CTRLZAK

CTRLZAK Art & Design Studio is a multidisciplinary team founded by Thanos Zakopoulos and Katia Meneghini. They will present their new DZEN project during Salone in Milan. The inspiration behind this project was when Zakopoulos and Meneghini discovered something peculiar on a mountain near a Buddhist temple: tiny sticks placed underneath massive boulders, appearing to support them but too small to bear the stone’s weight.

Acciaio Series by Max Lipsey

A series of three lightweight steel chairs inspired by the bicycle. American-born, Netherlands-based designer Max Lipsey will present a new project, Acciaio Series, in the Rossignoli Bicycle shop (Corso Garibladi 71, Milan) during the Salone Furniture Fair . The Acciaio Series (“acciaio” is Italian for “steel”) of three lightweight chairs is inspired by the classic racing bicycle. The chairs are constructed from specialized, c tapered steel bicycle tubes, using brazing techniques from the bike frame-building craft
