Digested Urbanism by David Keller

Digested Urbanism is a new project by David Keller in which he has covered five copper vases with pulp collected from various places in the city of Jerusalem. The gritty texture of the pulp contrasts perfectly with the shiny copper — as David explains it’s “a hard dissonance, just like the complexity of the city of Jerusalem.” Discover more great design by following Design Milk on Twitter and Facebook ! © 2011 Design Milk | Posted by Jaime in Home Furnishings | Permalink | No comments | Tweet This | Share on Facebook

Cappello Lamp by Molo

To encourage limited time on the Internet in favor of maximum time with family and friends (and food and alcohol!), it’s going to be a light week this week. Cappello by Molo is a small lamp lit by LED shaded by a paper “cap” or “cappello” in Italian, and is set upon a cylinder of soft white Carrara marble. The cylinder piece comes from the hole bored through the marble block-shaped base for Arco, the iconic floor lamp designed by the Castiglioni brothers and manufactured by Flos.

San Andreas Coffee Table by Ricardo Garza Marcos

Mexican designer Ricardo Garza Marcos designed this clever coffee table called San Andreas . Made of oak wood, it was inspired by its namesake — the tectonic fault that lies between the Pacific Plate and the North American Plate. I love that it doesn’t just come apart in two pieces as expected, but instead features hidden storage inside. Sensuous Tableware by Ilan Sinai

Ilan Sinai is a recent graduate from the department of inclusive industrial design at Hadassah Academic College in Jerusalem, Israel. In his Sensuous Tableware project, he explores our relationships with meals as presented through a series of thoughtfully-designed tableware catered to the senses. Text below is from the designer. Nowadays tableware is just a platform for food to be served in; it separates between the table and the food itself.

ARK Fruit Vessel

This fruit holder called ARK from the studio of designer Andrew Aloisio reminds me of a game I used to play trying to balance food on two chopsticks over a bowl of soup or a mug. Clearly, this was before the Internet was invented… we had to keep ourselves occupied somehow. Shifting the perception of the common fruit bowl, the ARK creates art out of your fruit as it is suspended over a steel vessel with wooden slats. The varying slat angles make it well suited to all shapes and sizes of fruit

Circle Bowl by Finn Juhl

Thanks to ARCHITECTMADE , Danish architect Finn Juhl’s 1954 Circle Bowl — after over 60 years — is going into production. This beautiful piece of design history is directly a product of what he called being an “all round designer” — he was fully immersed in the act of designing everything in a house from its interior to its external form. When one looks at the bowl from above, two circles superseded on top of each other reveal themselves
