I’m gushing over Galerie Gosserez’s latest exhibit of German designer Valentin Loellamnn’s M&Mme collection. What I love about these pieces is that the legs are all clearly traditional shapes but the pieces scream modern. From the press release: …sensitive work about material and its power of evocation, the narrative mode of which also draws on a certain Dutch design: the contrast of nature and technical subjects, past and present. The collection has been conceived like a family led to develop over the course of new additions. Galerie Gosserez therefore invites you to witness these first three pieces at the beginning of a dynasty: a bench; a cabinet with a door and a cabinet with drawers produced in wood and polyester

A limited edition of eight pieces, this cabinet by Paul Heijnen is the first in a family of furniture that he plans on designing over the next few years. The design for this cabinet started when he explored the relationship between the inside and outside of the cabinet. From the designer: In my opinion the inside of a cabinet is purely functional storage space, while the outside has more of an aesthetic function and value.

Industrial designer Melissa Rivera graduated from RISD and opened a small design studio in Hawaii called Unleash Studio . She believes that art should be functional and beautiful. This curious piece of art is part of the “Linea Collection: Art becomes furniture.” The three lines are made of plexiglass and represent three painted lines, which function as shelves

These three legged sturdy Platta tables by Antti Pulli are made from painted metal with colors that accentuate the simple but interesting form. Using as little material as possible, the thin figure is a simple and minimalistic design. The Platta table fits perfectly beside your sofa or bed and is also ideal as a coffee table (singularly or as a pair)

Cats love playing with and sleeping cardboard boxes, but who wants an ugly cardboard box sitting in the middle of their living room? That’s where these new cardboard cat products from Canadian pet company Loyal Luxe come in. They’re beautifully designed 100% recycled cardboard box cat habitats, The Canadian Cabin (saw this at ICFF and loved it!) and The Native American Teepee.

Giancarlo Alhadeff, FAIA, is an international architect in the truest sense of the phrase. Based in Milan and London, Alhadeff was born in Egypt, educated in Japan, and trained in architecture at Harvard (Bachelor of Arts, 1972) and Columbia (Masters of Architecture, 1975). Since establishing his own practice, Studio Alhadeff in 1990, Alhadeff has designed residences, multi-unit housing, and commercial and retail projects around the world, from the Turkish coast to Lake Como, from Manhattan to Moscow. Even the firm’s client list — large multinational firms, jet-setting families — is quintessentially cosmopolitan. Being a global nomad has had a formative effect on Alhadeff’s character, and on the character of his architecture: as the architect himself puts it, “If you’ve lived your life moving from place to place, you either make a point of standing out, or you learn how to blend in
