Mykea – updated

Materials: Vinyl Description: Update: 31 Oct 2010. Gert of Mykea sent me an update to what was published (previously submitted by an enthusiastic student) to tell us a bit more about their vinyls especially designed for Ikea furniture. ~ Jules Furniture by IKEA is good priced and well designed. But we don’t like the fact that we see the same Ikea interior everywhere around us.

Studio Lawrence

Studio Lawrence unveiled two new products last week at the 2010 Interieur show: To Gather, a modular sofa system, and Wonky chairs. These new pieces are the sculptural additions to designers Patrick de Louwere and Bart Eijking’s furniture collection. Fun and playful, they are just odd enough to be endearing. Piloh

Piloh is a project that aims to save old, damaged objects from ending up collecting dust in attics, basements and landfills and gives them a new lease on life. Using the idea of conflict and opposing materials, Piloh creates artistic pieces such as lamps, chairs and vases that make these unusable items useful once again. I particularly like their lamps. Dune by Rainer Mutsch

During Vienna Design Week , Rainer Mutsch showed a preview of a new outdoor furniture system for the traditional Austrian manufacturer Eternit called Dune. Dune is a modular furniture system consisting of five combinable modules: each one of them is molded out of an whole fiber cement-panel. Fiber cement is a 100% natural and fully recyclable material for full time outdoor usage. From the designer: With Dune I wanted to tell a story about the materials capabilities, the history of the company and the hand formed production method. The shape of all 5 Dune elements now allows the user to move freely on the objects and to choose an individual seating position according to his or her individual taste.

Letters Furniture for Kids by Alessandro Di Prisco

Alessandro Di Prisco has created a set of letter furniture for children. The shape of each letter serves as the inspiration for the design. The letter “S” is a swing for recreational activity, “I” is a library, “A” and “M” are a chair and table, and “G” is a chair-desk that becomes a corner where both working and relaxing are possible. How cute would this be at a day care center or in a nursery school classroom!
