IKEA: Homemade is Best

IKEA has released a new book called Homemade is Best , created by design agency Forsman & Bodenfors . Inside the book are 30 classic Swedish baking recipes for everything from small biscuits to large cakes — all using pictures. Inspired by high fashion and Japanese minimalism, the 140-page book is stylized with the ingredients getting just as much attention as the end result. Very interesting and eyecandy-licious (and delicious too, I’m sure!). Client: IKEA, Joel Idén Agency: Forsman & Bodenfors Art Director: Staffan Lamm, Christoffer Persson Copywriter: Fredrik Jansson, Anders Hegerfors Account Director: Susanna Fagring Account Manager: Ewa Edlund Planner: Tobias Nordström Photographer: Carl Kleiner / Agent Bauer Retouch: F&B Factory, Henrik Lagerberg Stylist: Evelina Bratell © 2010 Design Milk | Posted by Jaime in Art , Home Furnishings , Style & Fashion | Permalink | No comments | Tweet This | Share on Facebook

Calmares Lamp by Strala

The newest design from Strala is called Calmares, a light sculpture in two sizes that was designed to include several dozen energy-saving fluorescent tubes, each of which consumes just 24 watts of energy. “Calmares I” has 73 connected bulbs to form a spherical light and the smaller “Calmares II” has 13. The clustering and precise ordering allows the energy-saving bulbs to become graceful objects of beauty. The lamps resemble a freeze frame of an exploding firework or a starry sky, emitting soft, warm light

NLC Pendant by Constantin Wortmann

NLC is an LED pendant light designed for Germany company Next by Constantin Wortmann . At a first glance, NLC perplexes with its positively striking and yet strangely puzzling appearance. Its special appeal lies in the apparent conflict between the chaotic and the organic. It changes its shape with every new vantage point of the beholder. Both LED and ESL lamps can be used in its E14 fittings.

Duesphere Family Lamps by Note Design Studio

The new Duesphere Family of lamps by Note Design Studio was inspired by nature, primarily fungi found amongst green moss and large trees. The globes are hand-blown glass and soften the light just enough to set the right mood. © 2010 Design Milk | Posted by Jaime in Home Furnishings | Permalink | No comments | Tweet This | Share on Facebook

Tea Lighting by Original BTC

I love this tea-themed pendant lamp collection from Original BTC — it takes the phrase tea lights to a whole new level. This whimsical, quirky collection of teacup and teapot-shaped pendants and table lights were inspired by the 1930’s tableware that was once made in Original BTC’s Stoke-on-Trent factory. © 2010 Design Milk | Posted by Jaime in Home Furnishings | Permalink | No comments | Tweet This | Share on Facebook

Friday Five with Joseph Joseph

Twin brothers Richard and Antony Joseph founded their London-based brand Joseph Joseph in 2003 and have been busy bringing sex appeal to kitchen utensils ever since. Specializing in contemporary kitchenware, Joseph Joseph is now internationally recognized for producing some of the most stylish and technically innovative products available, and has become one of the fastest growing companies in the worldwide housewares market. The brothers’ main aim is to “tie up the loose ends” that a simple utensil has neglected by only partially solving a problem. Richard and Antony spend hours in the office kitchen looking for these loose ends and –- through testing complete sets of kitchen utensils and appliances -– have generated fresh problem-solving ideas and created new products that always fit their four rules of thumb: innovation, functionality, long life and good looks

Light Mincer by Reima Honkasalo

Artist and designer Reima Honkasalo created this sculptural light from recycled and disposed material called Light Mincer. The only part that is new is actually the light bulb. Reima explains that with this design he was asking “What is the lamp producing — except light? Well, need for more electricity…!” © 2010 Design Milk | Posted by Jaime in Art , Home Furnishings | Permalink | No comments | Tweet This | Share on Facebook

Expresso Espresso Cups

New from BuroJET , these Expresso espresso cups are molded from a 3D print. The design is created in a computer drawing and then printed through a laser technique in a 3D model, and the molds are made. The shape of these cups is derived from old Dutch handmade cups that were shaped round at the bottom and triangular at the rim, allowing good stirring and drinking

Best Ikea hack ever? You decide.

Erik and Eric tipped me on this Flamma hack by Helmut Smit, an artist/designer. I’m still iffy on it because it’s either a very expensive way to keep warm or a brilliant demo on how we can survive when we really need to by gutting our beloved Ikea furniture. You be the jury. Pieces of Pi by Dik Scheepers

Dik Scheepers graduated in July from the Academie Beeldende Kunsten Maatsricht , where he created a project called Pieces of Π (Pi) and is made from porcelain and ceramic glaze. I love the imperfections and the fact that each piece looks like folded paper.
