Paul Loebach + Kontextür Design Sleek Watering Can, Plants Everywhere Rejoice

When Kenneth Schiller, founder of Kontextür , visited Paul Loebach’s studio, he was expecting to talk about bathroom products but noticed models of watering cans on Paul’s desk and thought that a watering can might be a good addition to Kontextür’s new lineup of non-bathroom accessories. Considering Spring is in the air, we feel the same way as Schiller – bring on the watering cans! Inspired by the bold, yet minimal and functionalist aesthetic of Eastern European motorcycles, this watering can will rev the engines of your plants.

Multilayer Toldo Table by Christian Vivanco

Mexican designer Christian Vivanco explores supreme functionality, without compromising simplicity, in his latest design, the Toldo table . The multi-layered surfaces were influenced by the aesthetics of the temporary fabric roofs found at street markets in Mexico. They’re at various heights and hover over each other as needed. Each surface provides flexible storage options based on how easily one needs to access certain items.

Smile: Sorri Lounge Chair by Gonçalo Campos

The Sorri Lounge Chair , designed by Gonçalo Campos for WEWOOD , is an inviting chair with curved construction meant to reflect a smile. And how can one not smile looking at that pup sitting in the chair? The Portuguese designer put lots of thought into the details, like the wide seat and back so you have room for not only your bum, but your bag, books, or even a coat to sit by you or to hang on the back.

Deconstruction: Mallen4′s Inlaid Resin Table

Matthew Allen, the painter-turned-furniture designer behind Red Hook, Brooklyn-based company Mallen4, uses a distinct process of inlaid colored resin to add painting sensibilities to modern furniture.  A graduate of Pratt Institute, Matthew struggled to find a way of incorporating color and composition to furniture. Ultimately, he created a signature process of inlaying colored resin into a substrate material which acts as a functional surface. The pieces can be created in a wide variety of materials, including Corian, wood, metal, and plastics, in any color, from transparent to opaque.

Batch Series by Faye Toogood

While previously British designer Faye Toogood made mostly one-off pieces, the Batch series is a small production “batch” of design products that make her work more accessible. The series explores clean geometric forms and simple honest materials. Element Table (this reminds me a little of some pieces I saw by Massimo Vignelli while at the Vignelli Center for Design Studies ) has simple tinted glass atop three ash “elements” that are basic shapes: a square, circle and rectangle. The spade is an icon of rural life in the English countryside and the majority of these pieces are named after the Spade: Spade Chair is made of ash and has simple milking stool bottom with a gardening tool-style handled back. The Spade Side Table is turned from a mono block of wood
