Arbor, which means “trees” in Latin, is a compact work desk that is made of five different solid woods. It is small enough for tiny apartments or hotel rooms, and is best suited for laptops and light paperwork. A front-opening drawer and four top-opening compartments allow for maximum storage space. These storage compartments get smaller from left to right.

The first time I set my eyes on this, I thought it was a wine bottle Photoshopped to look like it’s floating in the air (and I’m sure you probably thought the same before reading the title). This clever nickel-plated iron wine bottle holder from online boutique Animi Causa would be an interesting addition to your dining area. http://www.animicausa.com

In ancient Greek times, events were depicted on the sides of bowls and vases. Somehow this tradition was lost and Lara de Greef brings back this tradition with her Olympic Gold bowls. But, instead of major events, Lara depicts the mundane, such as dressing and undressing, getting into or out one’s shoes, and sweeping the floor. http://www.laradegreef.nl

I just can’t get over this idea of making disposable things into reusable things. This water bottle and cup are made of glass. Probably too heavy and fragile to take hiking, but great for indoor use. http://www.orangeandpear.com

The simple task of slicing a nice piece of cake and getting it to your plate can be quite difficult sometimes. Finnish art and design student Maria Kivijärvi came up with a solution to this small problem by designing a stainless steel cake server that makes slicing a piece of cake, well, “a piece of cake.” You no longer have to worry about the perfection of your slicing and the piece toppling over as you move it to your plate! The server cuts a uniform slice every time and the squeeze of the handle keeps the cake in the server until you release it. http://www.urban-butik.com
