Birdhouse from Vlaemsch()

Designed by Emilie Cazin, the Birdhouse links the balcony to its green surroundings and the inhabitants of apartments to the birds outside. Lacking a garden in her LEGO like apartment building, Emilie Cazin created this Birdhouse in order to attract birds to her balcony and thus stand out from all the piled up apartments with the same windows, same walls, same balconies. The uniform balcony is transformed into a lookout for bird watchers. Birdhouse, with form that refers to, but clearly deviates from he parabolic antennas in the cityscape, is an invitation to the city’s birds to nest close to one’s window. http://www.vlaemsch.be

New LAXSofa from MASHStudios

MASHStudios introduces the LAXSofa — a brand new addition to the LAXSeries. It’s versatile in that it can be arranged in many different configurations. The imported European fabric, made of Viscose, and a biodegradable recycled cotton chenille, keeps sustainability at a high priority, which has been an important part of the LAXseries since its inception. Viscose is a fiber derived from beechwood, is an exemplary green material because it is a renewable yarn source. We think this is very cool.

2 (or 3 …) Questions for Agnieszka Lasota

Based in Warsaw, Agnieszka Lasota has been working a fascinating project called Furniture with Memory where she takes well-worn old furniture and encases it in electro-polarized glass and then projects digitized images of what it would have looked like when it was new, in pristine condition, and being enjoyed. Uniting past with present is something Lasota does well; the Wreath Project involves a traditional celebratory wreath being used as a lampshade. This Polish designer does not set out to marry art with design on her journey to create and shies away from too much definition. She leaves it to the viewer or user to take away what is important.

SWON Design

Cascade, the sculpture above by SWON Design, is a cast glass wall situated in a landscaped garden setting on the shores of Lake Ontario in Toronto. It measure 7′ high by 10′ long. The cast glass wall is made up of 77 ladle poured glass blocks in varying tones of aqua blue/green with texture simulating flowing water. The cast glass wall incorporates a water feature that allows for a controlled spill over the glass. Another design by SWON is the Glass Rock Garden, pictured above.
