German product designer Anne Boenisch creates home furnishings that are both functional, and most definitely, sculptural. Most of the products contain strong geometric qualities with beautiful shapes and lines. These are her latest pieces: The MOTION collection consists of a folding stool and table that utilize stainless steel bolts in the frame and seat, allowing the piece to be “stretched and squeezed” horizontally. I love that it can be flattened when not in use.

Recent graduate Roland Beaven created the Peaucellier Lamp to show appreciation for “the beauty and tangibility of mechanisms.” The lamp pays homage to the Peaucellier straight-line linkage mechanism that was invented in 1864 and turns circular motion into linear motion. The ball on the right is filled with sand and acts as a counterweight and can be moved up and down to adjust the height of the lamp. I love that the lamp looks great in any position it’s adjusted. Peg lamp and chair is designed by Toronto-based designer Tomas Rojcik . The objects are manufactured using both advanced 3D printing techniques and traditional materials such as resin, parchment, and maple. The two designs are conscious of small-spaces, and can overlap each other in any number of ways. Rojcik’s penchant for combining traditional and novel design allows him to portray both human and non-human qualities of manufacture – a dichotomy that needs to be seen more often these days. The lamp nestles in between the legs of the chair to represent a secluded personal space.

Tilt it this way, tilt it that way; the Tilta floor lamp by Scoope Design introduces a new, fun approach to the way a lamp can stand out in a home. Available in both a pedestal and reading lamp size, this lamp’s concrete base allows it to rotate at almost 360 degrees. Tilta can lay on any of its octagonal shaped sides to produce an angle of 30 degrees for each surface. This mechanism is simply done by using the force of gravity along with its weight to control where it goes. The metal part on top of the bulb functions as a handle to allow the user to grab it and tilt it in any direction they choose.
