DIYs to Try: Friendship Bracelets

When I was a kid, I would sit and make friendship bracelets for hours. Now as an adult, I miss those hours of creating and matching colors and stacking bracelets up my arms and ankles. And sometimes, when I’m stressed out about work or wedding planning or just not feeling so fabulous, I feel the need to make something. I’ve tried cooking but that doesn’t work – I need something substantial like a watercolor painting or gluing gems to a picture frame. Do you ever feel like that?

Back in the day when I would make these bracelets, I only knew how to make three or four different styles, and today I started thinking there has to be more out there now with the Internet, and of course Google did not disappoint. My favorite site that I found was Bracelet Book, which has tons and tons of awesome tutorials for different patterns and styles, as well as instructions on how to make different knots needed in certain tutorials.

I’m not sure what kind of friendship bracelets you’ve made in your life, but mine certainly did not look anything like the ones above. So, later tonight, I’m planting myself on the couch with my computer and my box of strings and I’m getting to work on one of these bad boys!

What DIYs do you turn to when you’re feeling the need to craft?

Recipe Radar: Chicken Pot Pie from The Chew

Just as it’s a terrible idea to go to the grocery store while hungry, it’s a terrible idea to watch a cooking show while hungry. I actually watched this episode of The Chew on my iPad while on the elliptical and that was an even worse idea – now all I want in life is this chicken pot pie!!

Do you watch The Chew? I don’t watch that often, but if I try to put it on in the background while working. Their recipes look pretty feasible to make and delicious – and they have a fun time on the show. The chicken pot pie for this recipe radar looks a lot easier – and tastier – than a traditional pot pie. You made the filling on the stove top in a skillet, plop some biscuit dough on top and throw the skillet in the over for about 25 minutes so that the biscuit dough cooks through.

This recipe is definitely one to keep on your radar for those days when you’re craving comfort food! Get the full recipe here on The Chew’s website.

What’s your favorite comfort food recipe?

Product Pick: Ginetta Prisma

For this week’s product pick, we’ve got a beautiful and fabulous modern chandelier from Italian lighting company SLAMP.

The Ginetta Prisma is made of iridescent polycarbonate, which has been made into a thin design representing a more traditional chandelier model. It uses a halogen bulb in the center that radiates throughout the polycarbonate. From that second picture, you can really see the glow that emits throughout the tips of the chandelier.

I can see this glamourous piece in a super chic restaurant or hotel lobby. Where do you see a stylish modern light such as the Ginetta Prisma?

Black Interior Doors

Black interior doors. Such an interesting concept. I’ve never actually seen or thought about black interior doors until I saw them on Pinterest a few days ago.

Against glossy white molding, I love the way the black pops. One home I saw painted the doors facing the hallway black and kept the interior (facing the bedrooms and bathrooms) white, which adds a contrast and element of surprise.

Is there any other color you can imagine painting your interior doors? Other than white or ivory, of course! I’m not sure I can…maybe a dark glossy navy but I would still probably prefer black. How about you?

Unique Beds: Would You Rather?

Over the weekend, I spent some time perusing the LA Furniture Store website, and I came across some seriously cool and interesting furniture. What really caught my eye while I was browsing the site was the many different styles of beds they offer.

When you think of a bed, the most essential part of the bed is where you sleep – on the mattress! But when you really think about it, there is so much creativity that can be had with the headboard or footboard – or even the shape of the bed. The variety of shape of beds is evidenced in the round bed above – simple and circular, yet totally different than most beds as we know them.

As far as headboards go, the variety there is endless – from shape, length, materials – there are so many different headboards out there. I really like the tufted leather one above because its large, looks like an oversized sofa and is just glamorous overall.

The real question is, if you had to choose between these two beds, which would you rather? The sleek round bed or the oversized tufted glam bed?

Personally, I’m rooting for the glam!

Quilted

What do you think of when you think of quilted? For me, my first thought is NOT anywhere near the quilted goodness you see above. But that’s ok – there’s nothing wrong with that, right? I think it’s exciting to see a contemporary spin on certain styles, which seems to be happening with quilted styles.

Looking at these images above, the quilted look also reminds me of the iconic Chanel designs, which are classic, timeless and elegant. I wouldn’t mind a style such as that in my bedroom or living room, that’s for sure.

While typically I’ve leaned towards a classic tufted look, the quilted look is something I wouldn’t mind seeing more of. Elle Decor lists quilted as one of its upcoming trends, and that’s fine with me!

How about you – what do you think of quilted patterns in home decor?

Working Out

Are you good at working out? I’m terrible at it.

There’s an elliptical in my basement that gets used about once every two weeks. I go to bed almost every night with the intention of waking up early to get on it, but I take the extra time to sleep in instead. So, lately, I’ve been researching different workouts that have been popular, and trying to decide which I want to pursue. I’m getting married in less than three months, and that is my motivation to [finally] whip myself into better shape.

First, I started looking at Zumba, which I’ve always heard wonderful things about. Dancing workouts remind me of Jazzercise, but Zumba looks a lot less farty than that! Then, my mom mentioned the Bar Method. I have often read of celebrities taking interest in this workout, but had never looked into it. The Bar Method uses a ballet barre as the basis of its exercises to provide lean, tone muscles.

Both of these exercises offer DVDs and local classes, so you can start out with whichever makes you the most comfortable. Classes can often get expensive, so I love that both offer DVDs – it’s just getting up and doing them that’s the hard part!

Have you tried either of these workout regimes? Do you have any other workouts to recommend?
