Peter Jakubik , a designer based in Slovakia, designed a set of outdoor furniture inspired by tree stumps except made of a combination of rebar and wood. The original oval wood grain shapes are simplified and reduced into polygonal shapes and replicated to form the base through a bending and welding process. The tops are made of pine wood coated with a simple oil finish. It’s been a known fact in our house that our little Maltese doggie has been spitefully peeing on the sole carpet in our house every now and again. Several times, we didn’t catch it soon enough and the pee had already seeped through the rug to the wood floors underneath the carpet. And no, stupid us, we did not put a rug pad underneath! So, needless to say, we had a few areas of ruined hardwood floors. Fortunately, my fiance has a friend in the business so he called him over last week to see what he could do for us.
We were left with two options – we could have him cut out the damaged areas and replace those with new flooring, or we could restain the entire room, in a darker finish so that the stains would blend in. As we were searching for different wood floor finishes, I thought – this is the perfect idea for a blog post! Because, as we perused a million different shades of flooring, I just couldn’t decide what I would rather. I won’t tell you what we ended up deciding – I’ll save that for another post!
So, tell me – which would you rather? Light wood floors, dark wood floors, white wood floors – or no wood floors!?

The Rotterdam-based duo Minale-Maeda created a collection of furniture designs that are completely downloadable – meaning you download the instructions and can get to work building them yourself. The Inside Out Furniture is a way of redefining how we, as consumers, have access to furniture. Instead of the manufacturing, transportation, and other costs involved in mass production, the line offers an alternative and cost effective solution to good design

Who knew that a light bulb made of wood could actually give off light? This wooden light bulb by Ryosuke Fukusada merges traditional craftsmanship with a modern LED device to create what appears to be a solid piece of wood shaped like a light bulb but which actually radiates light. The inside of the wood is chipped out until light can shine through.

Have you ever just wanted to move your bed outside so that you could sleep under the stars? Or, so you can pretend you’re camping without having to sleep on the ground? Luckily Milan-based designer Patricia Urquiola has created something where you can do just that. The Kettal Cottage was made for the Spanish company Kettal and it’s a modern, house-shaped retreat that just screams relaxation (and my name!).
