RIT professor and Friday Five veteran Josh Owen launched Metaproject in 2010, an industrial design course that would partner students with industry The second generation of Metaproject, which was exhibited this year at Wanted Design during New York Design Week, was a collaboration with the Corning Museum of Glass (CMoG) . Made by Eurokancom , the Koren chair by designer Djordje Zivanovic takes its form and assembly from early manufacturing techniques. Koren, the Serbian word for “roots,” looks back to a time when simplicity was king but updates it for our 21st century needs. Made of six pieces of beech wood joined together, Koren includes places to “put our things” when we sit down – purses, coats, hats, etc. – something I constantly look for whenever I go to a restaurant. I’ve modified the shelf with custom board arrangement. The wall mounts of the Expedit were not strong enough to hold it at the wall. But a wooden piece which I painted white would hold it from the bottom side

While in NYC, we checked out the brand new Lento collection designed by Finnish designer Harri Koskinen for Artek . The collection is simple, much in the style of previous Artek collections, with a simple base design reminiscent of the curved legs of the Aalto chairs and stools. ”Lento means flight and its design can be associated with lightness and airiness,” says Koskinen. The collection feels so, too.

CMYLK: Laurel Canyon Home by Ashe + Leandro

I came across this funny cartoon a few weeks ago on Apartment Therapy and thought I’d save it for a fun Friday where I wouldn’t be able to get a Weekly Six post out. [For two weeks now. Sorry about that!]

Anyway, since we talk a lot about mid-century homes and cover a lot of modern decor, in which MCM paved the way for, I thought it would be an interesting post. While I assume the cartoon is implying that mid-century modern decor should be retired, I’m thinking I wouldn’t mind one of those La-z-boy Womb Chairs!

What are your thoughts on mid-century modern decor and this cartoon? Should it be retired or would you rather retire on one of these pieces?
