Eclectic by Tom Dixon Launched at Maison & Object

Tom Dixon was born in 1959 in Sfax, Tunisia and moved to England when he was four years old. Having been educated in London, and completed a six-month stint at Chelsea Art School, a career in music followed before a motorcycle accident provided him with the time and welding skills that would lead to his design career — a career that has produced some extraordinary designs we’ve come to know and love. Fast-forward a couple of decades, via Habitat, Artek, his own shop, Space, and an OBE for services to design; Tom Dixon the company was born, and the rest, as they say, is history. Chop Rectangle, Chop Long and Chop Paddle, each milled from solid oak with a soft curved edge Tom Dixon was showing for the first time at Maison et Objet this year to launch Eclectic by Tom Dixon, a collection that’s described as “Things that are to play with or give or use everyday, things that are designed and are undesigned, things that are… eclectic.” Clockwise from top left: Hex Bowls, Bash Vessels, Form Bowl Set, Cast Mini Jack Cast Factory, a money box for industrious savers, modeled on a British factory from the Industrial Revolution era, and Cast Shoe, a classic English gentleman’s brogue cast in solid aluminium with a copper plated finish.

Nanton Coat Rack by Palette Industries

It’s been a while since we featured Palette Industries – a few years in fact … They’re new “electrifying” Nanton Coat Rack caught my eye. Designed to look like a giant transmission tower, which is often something regarded as an eyesore, the coat rack celebrates the sculptural design that carries important information from one place to the next — connecting us all. Valentine’s Day Decor

Valentine’s Day is just a little bit less than two weeks away and it’s popping up in my mind. I always think about doing something fun and putting together a nice table, dinner, desserts, etc and then I get lazy. So maybe if I start now, I’ll have it all together by February 14th.

To get myself in gear, I rounded up some Valentine’s Day tables and displays for some inspiration. Maybe I’ll search for some printables to make things a bit easier!

What about you? Do you have anything up your sleeve for V-day??

A Modern Dining Table with Multiple Personalities

I came across this modern dining table on Trendir yesterday and I have to say, I’m really feelin’ it.

The base of the table is fairly traditional with it’s German oak structure and carved legs. But add that satin white painted cover and it’s like Two-Face from Batman. (Way better looking and not at all a villain, of course).

Oh, and also – it’s extendable! Which you probably already figured out from the images but that’s ok.

Made by Kisskalt, this table can be completely customized – larger, smaller, or they can even add the white modern cover to any existing table if desired.

What do you think about this modern dining table? Does it suit your personality(ies)??

Claire-Anne O’Brien

Never has knitting looked so cool to me. UK-based textile designer Claire-Anne O’Brien was inspired by the actual knitted stitches themselves and created them in large-scale to produce these stools with a modern twist. The effect invokes depth and texture with an overall playful sensibility

Six Different Square Dish Sets

If I could, I’d fill my whole house with fifteen different dinnerware sets. Lately, I’m especially drawn to square dishes, which started with the white set shown above. Now that I’ve had the all white for about six months, I’m looking to bring in some with a bit of color. To get some inspiration, I’ve gathered six different sets of square dishes because I’m sure some of you have caught the square bug as well!

Are you into the square dishes or do you prefer round?
