A Peek Inside

Hello! Today I thought I’d give you a little peek inside my home to check out my holiday decor. It’s kind of a mish-mash – my white tree doesn’t really match the make-shift mantel we created – but that’s ok. Because I really really loveee that white tree. And the rest kind of just happened that way.

Here are some details of the rest:

I have a few more Christmas-y items in the kitchen, but the most is shown here in the living room. I’ve posted the full gallery to Flickr, so you can check out the larger images there if you’d like.

As you can see, I kept it pretty simple this year, but just enough to bring out the holiday cheer. Did you go crazy this year or are your decorations about the same flow as mine?

Nowa Forma Workshop 2011

The results of the five-day design workshop called Nowa Forma , or “New Form,” that took place in Swarzedz, Poland earlier this fall proves that with talent and teamwork great things can happen. Over the course of five days, four teams comprised 16 designers, plus participants from four companies designed and manufactured four distinct pieces of furniture. The Kanapka (above) is a sofa with an inside-out interior that includes three upholstery covers so it can be re-outfitted on whim.

Weekly Six: 12/16/11

Happy Friday! This week flew by for me – was it the same kind of week for you?

Hope you have a wonderful weekend ahead – here’s my weekly six picks from this week! Feel free to share some of yours!

Weekly Six:

1) I’m absolutely positively obsessed with this throw. Why does it have to be so pricey?!

2) Loving this 2011 in Review of Designer Desktops from Design Milk. Which is your fave?

3) I haven’t yet disclosed to you about my strong desire to get engaged (It’s been 4.5 years, it’s time!). But when I saw these erasers, I knew I needed them.

4) You can never go wrong with some flashy furniture.

5) This Gingersnap Milkshake is the perfect holiday dessert! (Plus, it can be made gluten- and dairy-free)

6) How great is the concept of Exploded Flowers? I want one of these in my kitchen!

See you on Monday!

Make Something From Nothing

Red Stripe® , the Jamaican beer company, recently teamed up with London-based Japanese sound artist Yuri Suzuki to create a series of cultural projects that celebrate the DIY culture of the brand’s Jamaican roots. Suzuki is best known for his sick homemade music machines including a flute made from an electric kettle and Scalectrix tracks made from old vinyl records.

Have A Seat In My Settee

My sofa is probably one of the most modern pieces in my home. I just love the straight lines that a modern sofa has – the way it parallels the surrounding walls no matter how close or far away it’s situated. Does that make sense? Because it’s my favorite! And those straight lines contrasted with soft cushy cushions, like the black sofa above. I love it!

Those two sofas above are modern designer sofas from fashionforhome.co.uk. If you haven’t visited their website, I highly suggest it. They have a large variety of styles and colors – including a lot of mid-century designs, which I really like.

Not that I necessarily need another sofa, but I do enjoy browsing around. And we will be redoing our basement soon. And I do have a few friends that are moving soon. Hmm….maybe I should show them some couches from Fashion for Home! Or these stylish settees. (Because settee sounds far more posh than couch!)

Can we just talk about that deep pink sofa settee for a moment? I love how it stands out and pops against the white room. Its so sweet and petite! And if you’re really having fun, you can say to your guests: “Would you like a spot of tea? Have a seat in my settee!”

What do you think – would you put a pink sofa anywhere in your home?

Gigantic Expedit-Bookcase

Materials: 6 * 4×4-Expedits, 1 * 4×2-Expedits, 6 * Perfekt cover panels Description: We live in a 19th century Prussian residential house in the historic city center of Erfurt, a 1270 year old town in central Germany. Our apartment has a ceiling height of 3.5 meters (11.5 feet), and we decided that the library/home office would be perfect for a large bookcase. As big fans of IKEA, a solution based on their furniture was mandatory :-) Click to read the rest of the post > >

NewspaperWood by Vij5 and Mieke Meijer

NewspaperWood by Vij5 and Mieke Meijer flips the idea of materials on its head. Instead of using wood as a source to make paper, NewspaperWood uses the paper to make wood! The design was Meijer’s project at the Design Academy Eindhoven, who decided it was time to create something useful from old newspapers that no one wanted. For the launch in Milan at Salone , Vij5 invited some designers to create products using the NewspaperWood materials
