Fall Entertaining: Pumpkins & Gourds

fall-entertaining-gourds

How cute is this entertaining idea from Better Homes and Gardens? Add some fall festivity to the table by serving snacks in the gourds, rather than surrounded by them! I love the detail it adds to the table.

Wouldn’t it be even more fun to make a fall soup and serve it to each guest in one of those gourds? Or to get even more creative, I would serve a dip in the cut-out gourd and then do the same thing to a large pumpkin, line it with saran wrap and use it as a chip bowl. And then use the pumpkin bowl for Halloween candy. And just as I was wondering how a hollow pumpkin would work as a punch bowl… I found one on Pinterest, also from Better Homes and Gardens!

I love these festive ideas – and how relatively simple they are to make!

What other ideas do you have for hollow pumpkins and gourds?

Cake In A Bowl

Guy Benadon designed a series of three melamine bowls, each associated with different cake recipes. The recipes are inserted into the bowl – the concept is to insert and measure the ingredients in the bowl in the order in which they appear on the marks inside. It’s kind of a no-brainer way of whipping up a quick dessert using one simple product. The project began while he was studying at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem

Orange You Glad It’s Almost Halloween?

orange-room-collage

Since it’s ten days before Halloween, I thought some orange home decor would be appropriate. Even though I really can’t stomach the thought of too much orange in my life, I know there are plenty of people that absolutely LOVE the color orange!

The first image above is a living room with orange walls. The room has lots of light and the orange is a bright, happy addition. How about orange furniture, as seen in the next two images? A matching orange sofa and chair are the focal point of this otherwise neutral living room, and an orange headboard is perfectly accented with white and orange bedding.

Finally, why not entertain in orange? This bright tabletop can make anyone happy with its vibrant linens and colorful flowers.

Although these spaces are not Halloween-related, they make the perfect foundations for Fall and Halloween decor! How have you implemented orange into your decor?

A Dream Lunch Date

lunch-date-dream

How’s the weather where you are today? It’s a beautiful sunny Fall day here in NJ and it would be a wonderful day to spend walking in a city or a little lovely park. Too bad other commitments prevail and we can only dream about meeting an old friend, a new love or a fun family member at the gorgeous restaurant shown above.

The high ornate ceilings allow you to take in their amazing seating arrangements. But the real question here is not what would you order, but which seat would you choose? The plush tufted purple sofas or the intricately private chairs? If it were me, I’d ask my lunchmate to switch with me half way through the meal, so that I could get a taste of both seats.

What about you – which would you choose?
