I discovered MacMaster Design at the Architectural Digest Home Show . Launched in 2009 by Alex MacMaster, MacMaster Design specializes in contemporary lighting and furniture products. Based in London, Alex runs the company with his business partner Limahl Asmall where they focus on high-end residential and commercial pieces.

The Conchiglia (shell) sideboard by Studiocharlie for Lema is inspired by the geometric form of a spiral or the “ golden ratio .” From the designers: What we see when we observe a spiral is a portion of it. As it develops it becomes too large to be perceived by the human eye, and in its origin it is too small for us to see the minute details. The sideboard Conchiglia is built on a portion of a spiral. As the geometric form develops, the size of the doors increases, and where the details become invisible at the origin of the spiral there is a void, a concentrated space

John’s one-of-a-kind pieces have been honored with numerous awards and grants and reside in the permanent collections of several national museums, including the Museum of Arts & Design in New York and the Smithsonian American Art Museum . This year he will be included in the Archives of American Art ‘s oral history program for his contributions as a leading American artist working in wood. John will debut his line next month at ICFF . Russian designer Vaslyaev Maxim has created the Pteleobius Lamp. Pteleobius is a genus of beetles of bark beetle family. These beetles enter fallen trees and create unique patterns in which to lay their larvae. Using one of these “engraved” elm trees, Vaslyaev Maxim attached a chrome-plated pipe to emit the light onto the surface of the tree branch

During Salone , Alessi will be presenting in Via Manzoni, the heart of Milan, a new project by English architect David Chipperfield. The Piana chair is a new type of product for the Crusinallo-based company — it’s a folding chair produced under license with Parma-based company Lamm. Piana is made from polypropylene reinforced with fibreglass with A.U.V. additives and matte, anti-slip surfaces. Produced in six different colors, the seat has a synchronized opening and closing system that rotates about a single point.
