The Human Furniture Collection

It’s like having a real live personal assistant. That only has legs.

Take a look at the Human Furniture Collection, a conceptual collection from Dzmitry Samal of Samal Design.

Constructed from MDF and plastic or Corian, Samal designed a collection of shelving, coffee tables, night stands and more – all incorporating the human body. On Dzmitry Samal’s website, the Human Furniture Collection is described as being “created as a mix between the pragmatism and efficiency of the geometrical shapes and sculptural beauty of human body.”

What do you think about the Human Furniture Collection?

Tendence 2010 Spotlight: Qualy Design

While at Tendence , I discovered Qualy Design is part of the New Arriva group, a Bangkok, Thailand-based company who creates quirky and kitschy pieces that make you say “well, isn’t that cute and clever!” Cleverly cute design is on the rise and Qualy is taking full advantage of this trend. The Dove (door) Stopper is adorable. Qualy really likes birds

Atlas

While this Atlas may not be your tradition book of maps, it provides the perfect display area for them! Made completely from tempered glass, the Atlas is designed by Danny Lane for Fiam, a furniture company based out of Italy.

The table top is made from a single piece of tempered glass that gracefully swoops in the center. The eye-catching legs of the Atlas table are 19 sections of hand-carved glass that is glued onto each other. The Atlas is available in several sizes, in rectangular and square shapes, and can be used in many ways: as a desk, a coffee table or dining table.

Where would you use the Atlas table?

DesignedMade

British design and manufacturing brand DesignedMade will be exhibiting at 100% Design launching their latest product, the Cubic Coaster . I love DesignMade’s laser-cut steel bowls and the introduction of a coaster seems like a natural progression. Check out their fantastic geometric bowls: © 2010 Design Milk | Posted by Jaime in Home Furnishings | Permalink | No comments | Tweet This | Share on Facebook

New Rugs from the Piodão Group

I fell in love with the Pixel rug and now the Piodão Group is releasing four more rugs to join the Pixel in the Piodão collection. Available in square, rectangle or large, the Pebbles rug resembles a pebble-covered surface except much friendlier on your feet. Reminds me of this Pebble rug , which unfortunately is no longer available. The Waves rug is like a rainbow or ripples moving away from the point of impact. It is available in various shades and two sizes.

Cool Concrete for a Cool Day

It’s a cool, autumn-like day in our neck of the woods so it’s easy for us to relate to the cool, sleek look of the concrete furniture designed by Urbis Designs. Shown above is the Shell Bench, a shapely bench with a smooth finish, also available in white. Below is the Orchid Table in slate, available in a smooth or stony finish.

Each of these pieces is made using GRC,  short for glass-reinforced concrete. With GRC, Urbis Designs creates beautifully molded planters and furniture. GRC is made from a structural mixture of glass fibers and fine concrete to create a material that is as durable as conventional concrete, but weighs less. Several finishes can be created from the GRC technique, anything from a stone finish to a metallic.

What do you think about concrete furniture? Is it something you would implement into your decor?
