Reset

Austrian designer Thomas Feichtner has created a new line of tableware called Reset. The side walls of all of the pieces taper toward the bottom edge, creating an almost unstable appearance. Although the bottom is smaller than the top, the structure is not less stable than that of conventional tableware of the same height.

Preview – London Design Week

Strathmore Rug

You know when your plane starts descending and you know it’s almost time to land, and you look out the window and see the same world you’ve always seen but in a whole new way – from above it all?  It’s a common experience that I’m sure many of us have shared, the beauty of which designer Liz Eeuwes appreciated enough to capture.  Her new collection of rugs illustrates exactly that, and you can see from these images that it is both an intriguing idea and a beautifully illustrated concept.

Strathmore Rug

Pictured in these two images is the Strathmore Rug, inspired by a bird’s eye view of the Scottish countryside.  Her collection also includes the Lisse inspired by Tulip Fields and the Bali by rice patty terraces. This collection will be shown in the Futures Area at 100% Design as part of London Design Week 2009 from September 24-27. Learn more at Eeuwes’ website.

La Lampe Gras – The Original Architect Lamp

In 1921, a young engineer named Bernard-Albin Gras designed a series of lamps for use in offices and industrial environments. The Lampe Gras, as it came to be known, is the quintessential French architect lamp. Astounding in its simple yet beautiful design, which had neither screws nor welded joints in the basic form, it quickly gained a cult following in France.

Pencils as art?

Pencil Flower

When I was younger, I once made a pencil can out of pencils and I thought I was pretty cool.  So maybe my talent was a little questionable, but artist Jennifer Maestre has indeed made of art from this unconventional medium.  Made of the ends of used pencils, not only has Maestre discovered something cool to do with material that would otherwise be discarded, but her work really is captivating.  Pictured here is just a small selection of here pieces.  See more at her website.

Pencil Spine

So what do you think – can pencils be art?

Edgar Blazona for TrueModern Luna Sofa

Check out the TrueModern Luna Sofa, brand new at Design Public. It comes in 5 different neutral shades. I love the charcoal gray, but I could never have that because my white dog sheds like crazy. The clean lines and tufted back are modern, but the legs are more of a mid-century style. http://www.designpublic.com
