Martin Yeeles, a graphic designer, is this week’s Friday Five subject, and he’s the co-founder and creative director of Boston-based stationery and gift company, Bob’s Your Uncle . He created all of the Bob’s Your Uncle line, which includes boldly contemporary greeting cards, gift wrap, place mats, file folders, dish towels, and more. In 1993, he and his wife, company co-founder and former shoe designer Michele Yeeles, moved to the States from their native England  “just for a year or two,” and never left. In case you’re not familiar with the saying, “Bob’s your uncle” is a British expression used to indicate that a given task is very simple. It was possibly inspired by Victorian Prime Minister, Robert Cecil, who appointed his nephew to a ministerial post

Beloved designer and ceramicist Eva Zeisel passed away in 2011 at the age of 105, and the last project she worked on was her one and only lighting collection and it has just hit the market. The Eva Zeisel Collection for Leucos is a line of hand-blown Venetian glass fixtures that come in two styles named Summer and Spring , each available as a pendant, wall sconce, or table lamp. Summer Pendant The curvy, organic forms most definitely reflect Zeisel’s signature style and offer a beautiful piece of her lasting legacy. One of the highlights of last month’s trip to Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) was The Vignelli Center for Design Studies . Melamine dishes for Heller Massimo and Lella Vignelli , who founded Vignelli Associates in the 1970, have designed some of the most iconic graphics, signage, packaging and products known in the world of design. Some are classics, like their Heller melamine dinnerware (pictured above) or their 2003 Heller chair, are well-known by many. Other iconic designs that have become staples in our everyday lives were also designed by the Vignellis

Designer Paul Nederend has turned his fascination for traditional woodworking into a beautiful new seat called  Chair Pole . The chair’s wooden frame, which is made of European oak, is created with traditional woodworking techniques and the seat is upholstered using a more contemporary fabric – Hallingdal from Kvadrat (1968). I love the hard and soft mixture and the bit of texture in the seat. The rounded stick-like wood legs and armrests are very Scandinavian and remind me of architectural elements found in wooden buildings like cabins.

Pig on the Wings is a stool that has animal-like feet. They look like webbed duck feet to me, but – hey – pigs will work, too. Designed by Gentle Giants Studio , the stool is an homage to the Traccia Table by Meret Oppenheim . It assembles without using any screws or glue; all parts are wedged together. When design is not just good but also clever, I get really excited and that’s just what the No Stereotype Series is. Created by furniture design grad student Dong-yeop Han of South Korea, this collection of furniture has the ability to store your stuff both inside and outside with its elastic bands.

Today was one of those days where I just wanted to look at gorgeous spaces for some inspiration and something nice and enjoyable to look at. So I went to Pinterest, naturally.

And let me tell you, while I did find ENDLESS amounts of gorgeous living rooms, bedrooms and more, almost every picture I clicked either went to another page on Pinterest or to a Tumblr page with no direct link, just a full page of images – not the one I had clicked on! Needless to say, Pinterest frustrates the heck out of me sometimes with all of its inconsistencies. Does anyone else find that problem? It could just be the type of day I’m having – which is why I’ve included these pretty images above – even though they have nothing in common!

I’m in the mood for a white space with pale pinks and greys and fluffy pillows and fur. I’m not sure why, but that was what I was looking for. I’m constantly drawn to that and may need to recreate a girly grey room in my home – I’m almost there with my bedroom – I would just need to switch out some blues for pinks, if my fiancee allowed!

So anyway, now that I’ve rambled on. What do you think of these spaces? What catches your eye? I know that gold sequin wall sure catches mine!

Sometimes a living space just isn’t big enough to fit a desk in it but, boy, it sure is handy to have a workstation sometimes. The Flatmate aims to give you just such a spot without taking up the valuable floor space that most desks do. Designed by Michael Hilgers for Müller Möbelwerkstätten , the slim design barely sticks out from its spot against the wall but gives you plenty of room to attend to all of your desk duties when opened up.

Doll is the new table lamp by French designer Ionna Vautrin for Foscarini where the shape looks like a cross between old oil lamps and those wooden Japanese kokeshi dolls that have skinny bodies and big faces. The bulging shades are made from glass while the narrow bases come in four colors – red, gray, green, and ivory. To help welcome the new Doll lamps to the market, Foscarini has launched a new Facebook app with the help of Hub09 Social Agency called MyDoll , where you can virtually customize your very own lamp. Using a drawing tool, users get to add outfits, hair, faces, and facial expressions that will then be displayed in 3D for you to share. Dress your very own doll here !
