Weekly Six: 12.21.12

Happy last Friday before Christmas! For those of you that celebrate, are you ready for the holiday or do you have some last minute shopping and/or baking to do? Whatever your plans may be, hope you have a fabulous weekend!

Here’s this week’s Weekly Six:

1 – Wishing I could recreate this chic, feminine bathroom in my own home.

2 – Inspiration for a romantic Christmas table – can never go wrong with tons of candles and this site has them – for cheap!

3 – Last year’s round-up of holiday baking – which I’ll be tackling tomorrow.

4 – Get the look of this wine glass by gluing some jewels and beads to the base – would also work great for candlesticks.

5 – Great list of ten champagnes to buy – for last minute gifts?

6 – After all this shopping, baking, and wrapping – I need a tub like this!

Have a great weekend!

Weekly Six: 12/23/11

Happy Eve of Christmas Eve! Are you ready for the holiday festivities this weekend? I am! (But I need a nap first.)

Here’s this week’s Weekly Six – if you have time to check them out!

1) Let me just get this out of the way: I need that diamond immediately. IMMEDIATELY! (It’s made by Ron van der Ende)

2) Since it’s getting colder, let’s dream of spending time in warm weather on this awesome modern outdoor furniture that looks like it melted into the ground.

3) There’s still time to make some chocolate truffles for the holidays!

4) And also time to make these DIY bows from leftover magazines.

5) Here’s a DIY for after the holidays: lacquered bowls for all the jewelry you got for Christmas or Hanukkah!

6) If you have little ones, I suggest uploading a photo of your home to shown them how you caught Santa leaving their presents. I love this idea! (Image from their Flickr page)

And that’s all! Have a lovely holiday weekend and we’ll see you back here on Tuesday!

Would You Rather?: Christmas Tree Edition

Do you think that Christmas trees should match with a home’s decor? I don’t! I think that the Christmas tree should be whatever a person wants it to be, whether it fits in with their decor or not. (It’s only temporary anyway, right?)

Would you rather have a modern Christmas tree like the colorful white one above? Or would you rather have a traditional tree with the reds, golds, and greens of the holiday season? Does your preference of a Christmas tree conflict with the style of your home? I’d love to hear all about it!

Six Different Menorahs

Last week, when I talked about six different Christmas trees, I promised something for those who don’t celebrate Christmas. I know I’m a few days behind, but here I am with six different menorahs!

Do you celebrate Hanukkah? If so, what type of menorah do you celebrate with? Do you prefer a more traditional menorah, or would you go for some of the more modern ones, like the first one in the second row above? (It’s made of concrete!)

The menorahs above, from L to R: 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6

Not so boring Christmas wreath

Materials: Ikea SNÖVITA wreath, felt, scissors, glue

Description: I personalized the SNÖVITA wreath using stash of felt I had at home.

I made one with Saint Nicolausand another one with the 3 magic kings (a spanish tradition, on the 6th of January they come to every house and leave gifts and stuff).

It was a nice easy way to get a different Christmas wreath for less than 30$!

How to make a crystal chandelier

Materials: IKEA TIDIG light, Binder Rings, Keychain Rings, 3-4 Candle Holders from Hobby Lobby or any other Crystal hangings that you can find – I also used Crystal Christmas tree ornaments shaped like hearts, Hooks (to attach the power cord to the wall if you did not have a separate light to hook the TIDIG up to)

Description:
Cost: Around $200 – sounds pricey but it really isn’t when you consider that the same could be found for $799 at Lamps Plus. Then I found this on your blog.

I wanted to make it but unfortunately Ikea doesn’t sell the GLIMT anymore; at least in my area here in AZ. So I went to Ikea and found the 6-light TIDIG hanging ceiling light that comes with 6 frosted white lamp shades on each of the mini lights. This one looks much lengthier than the GLIMT from what I can tell in the picture, and it was the same price! The one I got isn’t on their website, but I got
it in the store and they had 2 different sizes if you’d prefer the smaller version instead like the GLIMT.

To get the crystal Chandelier hangings, I actually went to Hobby Lobby and bought candle holders (They were 23.99 each, but I got them for 50% off because they are almost always having a sale on candle holders).

I removed all the crystal hangings from the candle holder. Then I regifted the candle holders without the crystals to different people for Christmas – it looks very modern without the crystals and people were telling me how cute they looked (not knowing they were missing the crystals).

Then I had my dad install the light into our loft window opening. He also attached a power cord because unless you have another light that you removed to hook this up to, you will need to attach it to a power cord. He then used 2 hooks and attached them in the corners of the windows to keep the white cord from hanging in the way.

Once it was hung up, my friend and I attached the rhinestone hangings using keychain and binder rings.

Plywood Christmas Tree by BUILD LLC

BUILD LLC has created this re-usable Christmas tree prototype out of plywood. Based on the classic Frasier Fir, a popular Christmas tree choice in the Pacific Northwest, this tree is about 5 feet tall. It’s two leaves slide together with a slip notch and then when the holidays are over, you can easily detach and flat pack the tree. For now, this is just a prototype, but let’s hope they start manufacturing these in time for next year. Looking for modern Christmas tree ideas

Adventsljusstake by Formtalk

The Adventsljusstake (Advent Candle Holder) by Formtalk is a candlestick holder with a design that provides fun to users by letting them use candlesticks in a variety of combinations. Adventsljusstake is a Swedish Christmas tradition in which they prepare candles starting on the fourth Sunday before December 25th and light one candle on each Sunday to keep them from darkness in addition to welcoming the birth of Jesus. Some people cut some parts of the candles off to maintain a perfect angle. ©2010 Design Milk | Posted by Catrina in Home Furnishings | Permalink | No comments | Tweet This | Share on Facebook More Milk: Art Milk | Dog Milk
