Materials: VIKA ANNEFORS x2, White Emulsion Paint, Glue (Double-sided Adhesive Tape or Instant Grab Adhesive) Description: We needed somewhere to store our sofa's fleece blankets and my wife's collection of magazines and newspapers. Martí Guixé has designed this Free Port cabinet for Spanish company BD Barcelona . Made of MDF that includes veneer of various types of wood with different lacquer finishes, the cabinet sits on aluminum and steel legs. I love that each storage section isn’t the same, meaning you can have this cabinet perform multiple uses such as an entertainment center, bookshelf and wine bar all in one. Italian architect and designer Elena Galli Giallini has been living in Japan since 1995 and brings a multicultural education to her designs. She recently designed the Deinde Collection for Japanese furniture company Morishige . This collection incorporates the use of urushi, which is traditional Japanese lacquer, with modern furniture. Morishige is the leading producer of furniture with lacquer urushi so they decided to work with the designer to help bring the beauty of it to modern designs. The theme was “traditional within modernity” and they’ve done that beautifully with the artistry of the ancient lacquer techniques and the clean and minimal lines of the pieces.

Earl is a flexible light by German design firm Llot Llov that looks like a giant wooden bead necklace. A hook is also included so that you can position the light source anywhere you need it to be and then easily put it back in the pendant position. Photos by Patrik Flittner
