Gorgeous Glittery Holiday Decor

How is gorgeous is all of this sparkly and tinsel-y decor? If I visited this home, I wouldn’t want to breathe or move for fear of knocking something out of it’s perfect spot. Each corner of the home is full of abundant decor and each display seems very thoughtful.

Once you find out who’s home this is you’ll know why. Can you guess who’s home it is?

Martha Stewart!

While browsing through Martha’s website this morning, I visited her blog for the first time and found these photos of her beautiful Bedford home. Her home isn’t exactly what I would call modern, but I think her holiday decor leans towards contemporary – especially with that first image of trees. Would you agree?

Anyway, if you enjoy checking out other people’s Christmas decor – or just Martha’s decor – head to this blog post here!

Modern Dish Racks

As you know, we’re knee-deep in a kitchen renovation , currently waiting for our tile to arrive. One of the things we desperately hate looking at is our ugly dish drying rack / drainer. Despite having a dishwasher, we still often find ourselves hand-washing some dishes, so we still need a drying rack. Did you know there are modern dish drying rack options out there?

Everyone Wishes for Silver and Gold

I’ve got Christmas music on the brain, and nothing suits the Silver and Gold tune better than these beautiful stools. They’re made by Koket, the same company that makes the flashy furniture mentioned in Friday’s Weekly Six.

Known as the Mandy Stool, the stools are upholstered in plush black velvet and available with either a stainless steel or polished brass base. The design is inspired by a cuff bracelet. Which I love because if I had a glamorous vanity, I would totally want one of these to sit on while putting on my makeup and jewelry for a big night out.

And since I wouldn’t be able to choose between silver OR gold, I’d take silver AND gold. Aren’t they just so appropriate for this time of year?

Which would you choose?

Stain retraining

Materials: LEKSVIK dining table, INGOLF chairs (my chair style is no longer available), FÖRHÖJA kitchen cart, water based polyurethane, foam brushes, 3 cans spray primer, 5 cans spray paint, craft paper, painters tape, orbital sander, 30 grit & 120 grit sandpaper, 320 grit sanding block Description: I have had my kitchen table and chairs for about 6 years and they were starting to show their age. I've noticed that ikea uses a finish that becomes “tacky,” marred, and discolored with use. Very few of ikea's products actually have the same stain and finish. I picked up the kitchen cart at the thrift store for $25 and wanted all the pieces to come together and look like an actual set of furniture rather than a hodge-podge of mis-matched pieces. I also needed to brighten the space in my kitchen to give it the illusion of more space

A Peek Inside

Hello! Today I thought I’d give you a little peek inside my home to check out my holiday decor. It’s kind of a mish-mash – my white tree doesn’t really match the make-shift mantel we created – but that’s ok. Because I really really loveee that white tree. And the rest kind of just happened that way.

Here are some details of the rest:

I have a few more Christmas-y items in the kitchen, but the most is shown here in the living room. I’ve posted the full gallery to Flickr, so you can check out the larger images there if you’d like.

As you can see, I kept it pretty simple this year, but just enough to bring out the holiday cheer. Did you go crazy this year or are your decorations about the same flow as mine?

Nowa Forma Workshop 2011

The results of the five-day design workshop called Nowa Forma , or “New Form,” that took place in Swarzedz, Poland earlier this fall proves that with talent and teamwork great things can happen. Over the course of five days, four teams comprised 16 designers, plus participants from four companies designed and manufactured four distinct pieces of furniture. The Kanapka (above) is a sofa with an inside-out interior that includes three upholstery covers so it can be re-outfitted on whim.
