De Intuïtiefabriek (The Intuition Factory) is a collective of 4 female designers — Amba Molly , Carolina Wilcke , Eefiene Bolhuis and Eva Gevaert — who recently graduated from Design Academy Eindhoven. Collectively, they focus on tableware, and their new project, Metropolis was recently exhibited at the DMY International Design Festival Berlin. Caputo is devoted to the product design phase of all of his furniture and uses cubist philosophy to break each larger idea into manageable piece and concepts. This installment of Design Milk’s Designer Desktops monthly desktop wallpaper series was inspired by a quote from William Shakespeare’s “As You Like It.” It is kind of hard to read in the image above, so here it the quote: “…only in the world I fill up a place, which may be better supplied when I have made it empty.” This month’s design was created by designer Julie Baumgarten , who says of her design: “Every design, illustration, or painting I do begins with a grid. The design simply takes form in the shapes and proportions I see within the grid. When I read this quote, I envisioned a blank canvas, so it seemed logical that the background would be graph paper.” You should follow her on the Twitter: @juliebelle13 . You might recognize a design or two in Julie’s portfolio because she has helped me with a few of my logo designs along the way. Eric Liftin, principal of MESH Architectures handcrafts pipe lights in a variety of configurations including custom insalls. The fixtures are made from iron plumbing pipe and almost have the appearance of tree branches. The fixtures cast a low, soft light akin to candlelight, but unlike candles these lamps can be switched or dimmed with a simple touch.
