Art and Rugs by Michelle Weinberg

Artist Michelle Weinberg’s paintings are pretty darn awesome, but it’s her rug designs that made me do a double take. Here are some of her recent paintings: Courtyard Folded Kiosk In The Planetarium Prefab 2 And some rugs: Photo:  Stephan Goettlicher Photo: Teodora Dakova And she even makes tiles: Share This: Twitter | Facebook | Discover more great design by following Design Milk on Twitter and Facebook . © 2012 Design Milk | Posted by Jaime Derringer in Art , Home Furnishings | Permalink | No comments

Peg Lamp Inspired by a Clothespin by William McDonald

Inspired by the simple slip-on wooden clothes pin (or “peg”), Canadian designer William McDonald designed a lamp that functions in the same way. Called Peg Lamp , the lamp uses minimal materials like aluminum, wood and felt to create a simple sliding mechanism so the user can adjust the light as needed. CMYLK: Milliken Flooring

For this week’s installment of  CMYLK , we’ve done something a little different. Instead of artwork and rooms, we’ve created  Colourlovers  palettes for four rugs from Spartanburg, South Carolina-based floor covering company  Milliken . These abstract designs are works of art in and of themselves. Pöl Collection by Caroline Gomez

French designer Caroline Gomez is well known for her simple yet functional objects that focus on natural materials. Pöl is the latest collection that consists of two desktop organizers that serve different purposes. The overall organic shape is meant to reflect a puddle, which is the English word for Pöl. The first is Tablette, which has slots to hold papers, notebooks, and pencils and then Plateau is a storage tray with two separate compartments to keep your small desk accessories. Throwing A Party

I’m not throwing a party anytime soon, but browsing through the Hostess with the Mostess blog makes me want to throw one immediately! But of course, it would have to have all of the colorful and creative ideas and details that go into the parties seen on their website.

Have you ever thrown a party like this? By “this” I mean with one of these fabulous tables that have a cute banner, drinks with labels and a cute straw arranged on a matching tray, desserts or appetizers lined up also with cute labels attached to a toothpick. You can’t forget the flowers and a coordinating tablecloth, either!

The first party shown above is an 80s-themed Bridal Shower and the second is a graduation and birthday party with a navy and yellow chevron theme. If you click through to each party, you will see how all of the details come together from appetizers to drinks to desserts.

If you’ve thrown a party like this before, what are your tips for staying organized and bringing everything together – aside from hiring a party planner!?

Product Pick: BuzziSwitch Brick Back

It’s refreshing to see wall decor that is different than your typical paint or wallpaper, such as this Brick Back by BuzziSwitch. Although, I’m not quite sure why it’s called Brick Back, as it’s made from felt – BuzziFelt to be exact!

The Brick Back insulates sounds, so it can be used on the entire wall surface, or just in sections, as a bulletin board perse. The felt enables push-pins and/or thumbtacks to be used to hang up any necessary papers, flyers, decorations, etc.

The best part is the all of the colors available – I wouldn’t mind a bright pink Brick Back in my home office!!

What do you think of this fun wall covering?

Days Like These

It’s days like these that I really wish I was a 2.5 millionaire. Because then I could buy myself the most ridiculously beautifully modern white home shown above.

The house, the kitchen, the pool, the surroundings – everything about this modern home is gorgeous. But what I really love is that ceiling! I would love to see it in person – the effect it has on the home must be absolutely unbelievable.

Can you imagine the fun of decorating this home? I think I would need another million or so to complete that project! I would leave the walls all white and just bring in color with sleek, contemporary furniture. How would you decorate this home??

This modern home is for sale, and you can view the description and more photos here.

Removable Triangle Wall Decals by MUR

Wall decals are a great alternative to wallpaper as they don’t damage your walls when they’re removed and you can change them the moment you get tired of your handiwork with little effort. While there are a lot of wall decals out there, it’s harder to find simple modular shapes that can create modern patterns like the Removable Wall Patterns from the Salt Lake City-based MUR . Currently the company sells triangles (hooray!) in a small and large size, each available in eight colors. Use their gallery to figure out what pattern you want to go with and let your imagination go wild coming up with your very own color scheme.
