REK Coffee Table by Reinier de Jong

Designer and architect Reinier de Jong has just released the versatile REK coffee table . The table grows and adapts to your needs. For example, when you’re not entertaining, perhaps you’d like to close it up, but when guests come over, you might want to move the sliding parts outwards to accommodate extra drinks and plates. Or, you can keep the sliding sections and store magazines and other things underneath. Share This: Twitter | Facebook | Discover more great design by following Design Milk on Twitter and Facebook .

Dave’s Low/High Rider (laptop table hack)

Materials: Ikea Dave, 1/4″ wood insert, furniture tabs, Induru tripod, Manfrotto Joystick Tripod Mount Description: I immediately enjoyed the use of Dave once assembled. However, after some use I discovered it was not as stable as I would have liked. Meaning, it was not meant for leaning or piling extra accessories on. Then, my kids had their fun with it and put it to its test. I thought it would be ok for my son to use as a Lego platform for a day

Weekly Six: 2.3.12

TGIF!

Any fun plans for the weekend? I’ll be tuning into the Super Bowl to watch the commercials and to see if I win any pools that I’m in – how about you?!

As always, here are our weekly six links from the work week ending 2.3.12!

1) If you feel like taking a daydream vacation, check out these 15 unbelievable resorts on Freshome.

2) Speaking of the Super Bowl, did you know that Americans will eat more that 1.25 BILLION chicken wings on Sunday? And 4.4 million pizzas just from Pizza Hut, Domino’s and Papa John’s. Crazy!

3) An easy way to add some color and flair to a medicine cabinet. (And how to organize it, too!)

4) Different ways to dress up this Glass Tube Chandelier – from color liquids to fresh flowers.

5) Considering buying a Springform pan this weekend just to make this Flourless Chocolate-Pomegranate Cake.

6) I’d probably take a bullet for this decadent carmelicious sofa.

If you have links to share, please do so in the comments!! Happy Super Bowl weekend!

Friday Five with Vicente Garcia-Jimenez

We met Spanish-born industrial designer Vicente Garcia-Jimenez , who now works out of Udine, Italy, on our trip to the lighting company Foscarini in Venice this past fall. In addition to having designed three pendants lights for Foscarini (Le Soleil, Fields, Big Bang), Garcia-Jimenez has also designed numerous other lamps, as well as sculptural and functional furniture pieces. He also works in ephemeral architecture and brand installations. He recently earned the Elle Decor International Design Award by the magazine’s Spain edition. For this week’s Friday Five , Garcia-Jimenez shared images that represent the starting point for some of his designs

Six Different: Groundhog Day Cards

Happy Groundhog Day! As you probably have heard by now, Punxsutawney Phil saw this shadow this morning, signifying six more weeks of “winter.” I say “winter” because it’s been in the 60′s the past few days! How has it been where you live?

I know it’s not an important – or realistic – holiday, but Groundhog Day fascinates me. I can’t get it to load right now – but I was looking at Groundhog.org earlier – and they have a Groundhog Club that had their annual Groundhog dinner last night. I think Phil was there. I think I may have to join.

Anyway, if you’re as fascinated as I am – send a Groundhog Day card to someone you love. Or to me, I don’t care! I didn’t even know they had Groundhog Day cards, but sure enough – here’s six different ones for ya!

What are your thoughts on Groundhog Day?

Valentine’s Day Decor

Valentine’s Day is just a little bit less than two weeks away and it’s popping up in my mind. I always think about doing something fun and putting together a nice table, dinner, desserts, etc and then I get lazy. So maybe if I start now, I’ll have it all together by February 14th.

To get myself in gear, I rounded up some Valentine’s Day tables and displays for some inspiration. Maybe I’ll search for some printables to make things a bit easier!

What about you? Do you have anything up your sleeve for V-day??

A Modern Dining Table with Multiple Personalities

I came across this modern dining table on Trendir yesterday and I have to say, I’m really feelin’ it.

The base of the table is fairly traditional with it’s German oak structure and carved legs. But add that satin white painted cover and it’s like Two-Face from Batman. (Way better looking and not at all a villain, of course).

Oh, and also – it’s extendable! Which you probably already figured out from the images but that’s ok.

Made by Kisskalt, this table can be completely customized – larger, smaller, or they can even add the white modern cover to any existing table if desired.

What do you think about this modern dining table? Does it suit your personality(ies)??

Claire-Anne O’Brien

Never has knitting looked so cool to me. UK-based textile designer Claire-Anne O’Brien was inspired by the actual knitted stitches themselves and created them in large-scale to produce these stools with a modern twist. The effect invokes depth and texture with an overall playful sensibility
