This installment of Design Milk’s Designer Desktops monthly desktop wallpaper series was inspired by a quote from William Shakespeare’s “As You Like It.” It is kind of hard to read in the image above, so here it the quote: “…only in the world I fill up a place, which may be better supplied when I have made it empty.” This month’s design was created by designer Julie Baumgarten , who says of her design: “Every design, illustration, or painting I do begins with a grid. The design simply takes form in the shapes and proportions I see within the grid. Yesterday’s post got me thinking. Maybe our workspace don’t need to look so ordinary? These workstations by Derin Design completely redefine the workspace, making dreary cubicles a thing of the past. Called the Igloo Workstation, it features a unique shape that’s definitely more interesting than the traditional cubicle cube.

What I also like about the Igloo, though, is that it doesn’t completely depart for the idea of the cubicle. Each employee still has his or her own breathing space, but this time its far more visually exciting. See more here.

Materials: Vika Curry leg, Ekby Statlig shelf Description: The goal was to make a pair of cheap and simple speaker stands. Vika legs are just suitable height to bring the speaker to the ear level when I’m sitting down, and in black they will match the legs of my desk. For the base plate I used an Ekby Statlig solid wood shelf in 19cm width. To put it all together I bought an 8mm threaded rod in the hardware store and a couple of nuts and washers
