Hexis by Kitmen Keung

Canadian product designer Kitmen Keung has created a modular hexagonal mat called Hexis that brings together the convenience of a coaster and a resting place for small utensils. From the designer: Hexis is a hexagonal mat that provides the ultimate unification of form and versatility whilst retaining an ideal balance between the two. The sleek silicone piece is multi-functional; bringing together the convenience of a coaster and a resting place for small utensils such as teaspoons and stir sticks in the form of an inwards sloping corner

Friday Five with Rebecca Lonergan of modwalls

Rebecca Lonergan spent many years in high tech staffing in the Silicon Valley, including stints as the head of the staffing departments for both eBay and Google. She had always worked creatively making jewelry and mosaic tile art as hobbies. In 2003, she and her husband David decided to live more creatively on a full-time basis. They started modwalls® as a result of their own difficulty in finding modern and colorful tile for their home projects. Both had backgrounds in high tech, so they knew that they could bring a traditionally brick and mortar retail experience online.

Night Drink by Alex Gil

Have you ever been thirsty late at night? And have you ever tried drinking while lying down? It’s impossible to do so with a traditional glass or bottle. Alex Gil has designed Night Drink , which is a modern interpretation of the traditional Kendi from Asia, transformed into a solution for the thirsty at night. The description reads, “The container provides a sensual object to hold, the small tap on top stops spills, the spout allows for drinking in a partially reclined position and the spouts extended nature ensures it’s always at the edge of the night table for easy access.” © 2010 Design Milk | Posted by Jaime in Home Furnishings , Technology | Permalink | No comments | Tweet This | Share on Facebook More Milk: Art Milk | Dog Milk

Berg Frei by Nicole Losos

For her diploma project, Nicole Losos has created an Alps-inspired sofa-mountain landscape, which she calls “Berg Frei!” From the designer: This unique concept-furniture helps you experience the extended view of your surroundings, akin to mountains, altering your outlook toward the height and direction. Now, the space limited surfaces at your home or office would be able to create an unusual bond with the surrounding space. The wall-mounted sofa offers you a very comfortable way of conversing eye to eye, in spite of your sitting or standing posture, with 40cm of difference

Iron Design Company Wine Rack

Iron Design Company sent me a link to their wine rack , which they recently exhibited at the Architectural Digest Show in NYC. It is made of steel and holds up to a half case of wine. The fluid shape appears to be molded by the wine bottles themselves

Cool Lamp Made from Ikea & eBay finds!

lamp

I can’t really explain why I like this light, but I know that I do. I saw it and I had to know more, so I headed over to the designer, Charles Crawford’s website.

lamp2

What I came across was really interesting. The light is made of parts Crawford got from eBay and Ikea. I guess some designers shop just like the rest of us! The electrical cable is from Sweden but bought from a German eBay seller and the body of the lamp is made from an Ikea Lack side table. He is currently producing a limited run of twenty five pieces, each of which will be signed and numbered. And the best part- they are a reasonable $150! Head here for more info or to get one for yourself.

Spread Light by Jeongwon Ji

spread-light

This incredible ceiling light is the work of Jeongwon Ji, and is the result of a structural study on the association with the motion of light, human engagement, and the movement of forms. This light can be expanded or shrunk, and each movement alters the amount of light.

Spread Light is created through both modern manufacturing processes as well as hand-made methods, Ji’s idea of a new kind of luxury. See more here.

Smaller Objects

Anthony Hill recently photographed some pieces for a new book project from Claesson Koivisto Rune . The photographs are quite beautiful with a feeling of still life mixed with movement. © 2010 Design Milk | Posted by Jaime in Art , Home Furnishings | Permalink | No comments | Tweet This | Share on Facebook More Milk: Art Milk | Dog Milk

SevenUp Chandelier

I love the SevenUp chandelier at De Invasie , a shop which features young creators from Belgium & The Netherlands from personal accessories to interior furnishings. The bulbs of SevenUp seem to be suspended by seven arms that extend from the ceiling base. It kind of reminds me of the Heavy Guy Chandelier . © 2010 Design Milk | Posted by Jaime in Home Furnishings | Permalink | No comments | Tweet This | Share on Facebook More Milk: Art Milk | Dog Milk
