Spanish-born, Netherlands-based designer Jorge Penadés created New Approach, a project that walks a fine line between art and a functioning object for your home. Netherlands-based industrial designer  Renate Vos created a series of experimental pendant lamps using an unusual combination of concrete and silicone rubber. Concrete Bin is a self-produced oval light that is a mostly concrete shade with a border of translucent silicone rubber that emits a warm glow. The  Small and Big conic models  are produced and distributed by Serax. Right now, Vos and Serax are also working on an extra-large conic version. PROOFF recently launched the #006 SideSeat that was designed by the Netherlands-based duo Studio Makkink & Bey . It’s the latest item they’ve released that begs its users to be “flexible with their working space.” The multifunctional design is not just a chair, it also features a desk and storage. The compact workstation resembles those all-in-one desks you might remember from high school, but this one has much more style. The seat swivels with you so you can use it as a full-on workspace with your laptop in front of you or sit so that you can jot things down with the tabletop to your right side

PROOFF #006 SideSeat Desk, Chair and Storage in One

Stuck Chair is a minimal design created by Netherlands-based designers  Oato Design Studio . The firm was established by Stefan Tervoort and Pim Snijdoodt, both of whom are product designers that bring different aspects of their expertise into the field. The company stands for “one and the other,” which represents a focus on the expression of design and aesthetics, while maintaining a holistic approach to the actual process of design. The inspiration behind the chair was to take apart all of the basic elements of a chair, and then put them back as if they were simply stuck together. The resulting form is a design that makes every element of the chair have a leading role in the total structure. The designers love the fact that when people closely inspect the chair to look for additional supports, they won’t find any. The chairs are products with oak wood and powder coated steel.

I could not have been more excited when I saw the LygoLamp from the Netherlands-based design firm Studio Mango . Inspired by LEGO bricks, they created a circular hanging lamp that arrives at your home in the form of 12 dozen curved, interlocking plastic bricks, as well as the necessary lighting hardware. After some childhood block building fun, you have yourself a super cool and modern fixture that will surely get people talking.

Studio Toer , a creative firm based in The Netherlands, recently designed the Spring LED Lamp . The simple fixture features a purple-ish felt shade attached to two flexible, super skinny steel rods. The light is meant to be directional and easily moves around by moving the rods up and down

Netherlands-based designer Erik Stehmann explores using simple materials and basic techniques to build a table and chair. “Inspired by the typical ‘woodworker’ sentence: ‘Glue is stronger than wood’, I experimented with glue and wood to test this phrase. After testing lots of different types and brands of glue I discovered a glue that succeeded. By cutting a beam up in blocks, and gluing it together as a beam again, it became even stronger than the original beam,” Erik explains

Netherlands-based designer Ka-Lai Chan’s newest furniture collection, The Ordinary Family, premiered during OBJECT Rotterdam 2012 . The Ordinary Family can now be seen at Judy Straten Gallery . Consisting of five pieces, the collection was inspired in part by Chan’s own family observations as well as observing families around her. It includes a rocking horse, coffee table, side table, praying chair and the No Sign of Design chair — a basic practical chair by the influential Dutch designer Richard Hutten.

The Ordinary Family by Ka-Lai Chan

Dutch designer Reinier de Jong is an architect, interior designer, furniture designer, and online editor/blogger (a Renaissance man) based in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
