INTRO NY was a side show from the designjunction team featuring a handful of international designs in an all-white space on the edge of Soho. Resident is a NZ-based company specializing in lighting and furniture, but I really fell for the hexagonal pendant and the spinning mobile by Jamie McLellan. Watch it in action here

The Leather Collection by Maarten De Ceulaer for Nilufar is a collection of artistic, sculptural storage pieces that reflect the designer’s great passion for traveling and exploring the world. Like totems to travel, these towers and piles of suitcases in various leathers were created in collaboration with one of the most renowned leather artisans in Belgium, Ralph Baggaley. Each suitcase looks to be intricately and carefully made, tailored to reflect the luxurious and sophisticated of all nomads. In the flexible Chest of Suitcases , every drawer can be positioned to any direction, so the chest can be placed against a wall or in the middle of a room, so that the drawers can open from all sides. The Pile of Suitcases , which was the first piece in the collection, was thoughtfully assembled to make sure each section housed a particular type of garment.

German designer Sebastian Scherer has created a series of tables called Isom . The tables are made completely in 10mm sheets of blue, green, grey, and bronze glass, each with a hexagon-shaped top. Supported by three pieces of rectangular glass vertical panels, the tops appear to form rhombuses when looking down at them because of the edges of the base pieces. Placing multiple tables together creates really cool optical illusions, especially when you mix the colors up.

Are you a chess player that also loves design? If so, the type(chess)set by Hat-trick Design was made for you. Gone are the generic chess pieces that come standard with every set, instead you’ll find them replaced with typographic letters, like K for King. The laser cut acrylic letters are based on the Hoefler Frere Jones typeface, Champion (Lightweight). To ensure stability, the Q and the P were redesigned.

Montreal-born, London-based designer Philippe Malouin recently debuted a series of lamps entitled Daylight . The collection has a similar feel to louvered shutters, which makes sense since they were inspired by plantation shutters. Each slat hides a strip of LEDs that mimic daylight (hence the name), as if the sun is peaking through the shutters

Materials: Malm Bed Base Description: This hack begins with a king-size Malm bed base that we no longer had any use for. Rather than get rid of it I had an idea that the headboard and base were nice-enough looking pieces of wood to be reused and, given that our TV was sitting on a small, worn out stand, I thought I’d have a go at making a TV unit/sideboard/thing.
