Ovale Flatware by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for Alessi

French design brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec have designed a collection of flatware for Alessi called Ovale that goes along with an earlier set of tableware they created with the same name. Slight curves and a balanced weight were worked out through a lot of trial-and-error prototypes to get to the finished product. Made of 18/10 stainless steel, the cutlery is made with a simple and modern aesthetic, basically a no frills approach to flatware that is the perfect complement to their original Ovale tableware collection . LDF 2011: Okay Studio / Arco

They were challenged to make something from wood that was completely different from anything in the current Arco catalog. The resulting prototypes are displayed in “The Garage” just off Brompton Road from September 17-25th for the London Design Festival

Phase Bureau by Patternity

Hidden Art is giving five independent UK designers the opportunity to launch new products and prototypes during the Milan Furniture Fair. Their stand at SaloneSatellite will feature this beautiful Patternity Phase Bureau, which I am currently wishing was also going to be on display at ICFF. This is just the rendering, but isn’t it ravishing?

Randall , a furniture designer, does his thing on the Grono lamps. He says, ” So many times I tell people – I look at Ikea as a “hardware store” as much as I do a Furniture retailer…No offense – I think Ikea’s awesome….just that many items they sell are so
