Yes, Sir!

Sir is a modern armchair with traditional flair.

With a curved, wooden frame made from veneered rosewood, Sir has the common modern attribute of bent wood. It’s the tufted leather that leans a bit more to the traditional side!

However, this beautiful chair is also available in smooth upholstery. The upholstery is shape-retaining polyurethane.

Sir is designed by Carlo Colombo for Nube, an Italian furniture company.

Nendo: Textured Transparencies

Nendo has an exhibit going on this week during Salone called Textured Transparencies . Descriptions below are from the designers. Transparent-Table We cast clear acrylic in a wooden form with a strong grain and assembled the resulting pieces to create a table made of ‘transparent wood’. We reproduced the butt ends faithfully and beveled the edges like floorboards, and matched the grains ends and dimensions of the wood used for the table legs to the ‘transparent wood’ to create a unified piece. The two tables have specific and different optical effects: at first glance the black table is wood, but a closer look reveals its transparency, while the clear table is the transparent at first glance, and only later reveals its wooden form.

Get Emotional with the E-Motion

e-motion1

The E-Motion Coffee Table is like a fully-loaded vehicle. It has several features that entice and intrigue those who stop by for a ride.

To start, the E-Motion has an optional LED kit that illuminates the table, as shown above. Many different colors are available and can easily be changed and operated by a switch on the table or by a remote control.

e-motion2

You can see from this image that the remote control also controls another function, which is the adjustable height of the E-Motion. The mirrored frame of the E-Motion can go from its 43 cm height to a tall 82 cm. Again, this can be controlled by the switch or the rmote.

e-motion3

Another useful feature of the E-Motion is the sliding side extensions. Two extensions provide more space in the living room, or crank up the height, pull out the side extensions and you’ve got yourself a modern dining table!

Designed by Italian design company Ozzio Design, the E-Motion is referred to a transformable item. The perfect name for a product that can be illuminated, extended to the side or within height. The awesome features of the E-Motion enable it to save space within your modern home, as needed.

Conchiglia Sideboard by Studiocharlie

The Conchiglia (shell) sideboard by Studiocharlie for Lema is inspired by the geometric form of a spiral or the “ golden ratio .” From the designers: What we see when we observe a spiral is a portion of it. As it develops it becomes too large to be perceived by the human eye, and in its origin it is too small for us to see the minute details. The sideboard Conchiglia is built on a portion of a spiral. As the geometric form develops, the size of the doors increases, and where the details become invisible at the origin of the spiral there is a void, a concentrated space

Taxing Art: The T228/89 Table

Taxing Art is an interesting concept designed by Beta Tank. Taxing Art was created as a representation of the relationship between design and art and bureaucratic policies.

Their website explains: “Our Taxing Art research explores the convoluted kingdom of taxes and international customs laws, which continue to define man-made objects and creative practices against archaic categories.”

The T228/89 Table is made using 119 rotating pyramids. This sequence of photos highlights the quick transformation that the table takes from design object to sculpture.

Because, as Beta Tank states, it can never be both – in legal terms.

Beta Tank is a team of conceptual product designers. For more information on the Taxing Art project, check out their website: http://www.betatank.net/taxing-art.html
