Concrete Lace by Doreen Westphal at Maison & Objet

One of the stand-out pieces at Maison & Objet for me was Doreen Westphal’s concrete lace curtain . Not only visually stunning, it plays with our conception of gravity, delicately suspending something we perceive to be very heavy in mid-air. The design is based on an old lace pattern from Belgium, which Doreen translates into a digital file. From this she creates a mold using plexiglass and silicone

Cheap, (Almost) Instant bar!

Materials: Effectiv, Abstrakt, Capita Description: In this hack, I take an EFFECTIV Add-on (high), original price $80, purchased in the As-Is department for $45, a set of CAPITA angled brackets ($14.99), ABSTRAKT kitchen door piece, regular $74, also purchased in the As-Is department for $1.99. The first thing I had to do was take some isopropyl alcohol and remove the “As-Is” and item number written on the back side of the cabinet (which will be the front part of the bar). The As-Is department apparently now requires that the words AS-IS and the item # be marked in a prominent place on the furniture, which I find ridiculous, because it potentially ruins the piece.

Super Bowl Sunday

Although we started with some Valentine’s Day inspiration yesterday and the ideas are flowing, they’ve got to be put on the back burner for some Super Bowl Sunday ideas, since it’s just a few days away. It’s kind of ironic when you think about it, if you stereotype the two events as one super-macho and one super-girly, that they’re so close to each other! Fine by me, especially if my guy wins a nice chunk of change in a Super Bowl pool, I better have a nice V-day gift coming my way!

Anyway, I heard on the radio today that approximately 7 million people call out of work the Monday after Super Bowl. Can you imagine!?! I didn’t think it was that crazy of a day, but apparently so.

Will you be doing anything special on Super Bowl Sunday? The image above is from Party City, so if you need some last minute decorations - they’re the place to go! And if you’re not sure what to make – check out the 101 best Super Bowl Recipes that is an awesome round-up of everything from wings, dips, sandwiches, more wings, and desserts.

REK Coffee Table by Reinier de Jong

Designer and architect Reinier de Jong has just released the versatile REK coffee table . The table grows and adapts to your needs. For example, when you’re not entertaining, perhaps you’d like to close it up, but when guests come over, you might want to move the sliding parts outwards to accommodate extra drinks and plates. Or, you can keep the sliding sections and store magazines and other things underneath. Share This: Twitter | Facebook | Discover more great design by following Design Milk on Twitter and Facebook .

Dave’s Low/High Rider (laptop table hack)

Materials: Ikea Dave, 1/4″ wood insert, furniture tabs, Induru tripod, Manfrotto Joystick Tripod Mount Description: I immediately enjoyed the use of Dave once assembled. However, after some use I discovered it was not as stable as I would have liked. Meaning, it was not meant for leaning or piling extra accessories on. Then, my kids had their fun with it and put it to its test. I thought it would be ok for my son to use as a Lego platform for a day
