New York-based design studio MyDesign Group has recently completed a metal collection for Nambe . The main design in the collection is the Scoop Chip and Dip Server, a really fun “chip & dip” bowl where the dip bowl seems to hover effortlessly over the larger serving bowl. Wei Young, head of MyDesign, explains the inspiration for this piece: The inspiration for the Scoop Chip and Dip came from the sweeping, fluid motion one performs when scooping an actual chip into dip

Capo d’Opera’s newest project are ironic hanging storage units that resemble men’s clothing — a tribute to tailoring. The cabinets showcase five different fabrics from Oxford and Madras to Argyle, which represent shirts hand-knit sweaters. The bond that holds the cabinet together is either a zipper or buttons. © 2010 Design Milk | Posted by Jaime in Home Furnishings | Permalink | No comments | Tweet This | Share on Facebook

Melbourne-based Charlwood Design has created The Ribbons of Life — a unique lighting concept inspired by the distinctive and intricate organic structures of nature for The Design Institute of Australia’s Light + Shade exhibition which is part of Victoria’s State of Design Festival . Drawing on a DNA strand as a starting point, Charlwood was interested in exploring the way light interacts with complex shapes. The result is a futuristic, intriguing form that diffuses light into dense, multi-layered shadows. Using their in-house 3D printer for fabrication allowed the creation of new forms previously impossible to manufacture using traditional methods. The final material, a form of ABS plastic gives a soft amber glow to light as it passes through it

Metal Spinning is a graduation project from James Shaw , who is studying design at Kingston University, which recently won an award at New Designers 2010 in London. From the designer: This project is an exploration of the process of metal spinning. Metal spinning is a now often overlooked process whereby a disc of metal is pushed onto a former while both are being turned at high speeds on a lathe producing axismetrical forms.
