Based in Warsaw, Agnieszka Lasota has been working a fascinating project called Furniture with Memory where she takes well-worn old furniture and encases it in electro-polarized glass and then projects digitized images of what it would have looked like when it was new, in pristine condition, and being enjoyed. Uniting past with present is something Lasota does well; the
Wreath Project involves a traditional celebratory wreath being used as a lampshade. This Polish designer does not set out to marry art with design on her journey to create and shies away from too much definition. She leaves it to the viewer or user to take away what is important.

Cascade, the sculpture above by SWON Design, is a cast glass wall situated in a landscaped garden setting on the shores of Lake Ontario in Toronto. It measure 7′ high by 10′ long. The cast glass wall is made up of 77 ladle poured glass blocks in varying tones of aqua blue/green with texture simulating flowing water. The cast glass wall incorporates a water feature that allows for a controlled spill over the glass. Another design by SWON is the Glass Rock Garden, pictured above.

Design studios contributing to the Corn Craft exhibition curated by Studio Toogood and Gallery FUMI kept the focus on corn and wheat. Nacho Carbonell used corn resin, corn juice, ground corn, barley, wheat, oats, cornflakes, and steel rod reinforcements for furniture in the Crop collection designed to evoke the textures and colours of the cornfield. Raw-Edges Design Studio made a table of dry wheat set in wooden frames, and plates were planted within the stalks of wheat. The theme continued throughout the space, thanks to Rowan Mersh’s hanging installation composed of wheat, barley and oats strung onto mono-filament wire.
