Materials: Expedit Shelf (1×5), some wood and plastic milk-glass Description: I’ve build a custom IKEA Expedit TV Rack. For perfect fit of my electronic components. I’ve modified the shelf with custom board arrangement. The wall mounts of the Expedit were not strong enough to hold it at the wall. But a wooden piece which I painted white would hold it from the bottom side

This week, CMYLK takes a trip to laid back Laurel Canyon, California, compliments of New York City-based architecture and interior design firm Ashe + Leandro . We’ve created four Colourlovers palettes, one each for a modern deck with a leafy backdrop, a living room with beamed ceiling and white leather Eames lounge, a groovy dining room with Panton chairs, and a pinky-purplish and blue bedroom with statement wallpaper. I came across this funny cartoon a few weeks ago on Apartment Therapy and thought I’d save it for a fun Friday where I wouldn’t be able to get a Weekly Six post out. [For two weeks now. Sorry about that!]
Anyway, since we talk a lot about mid-century homes and cover a lot of modern decor, in which MCM paved the way for, I thought it would be an interesting post. While I assume the cartoon is implying that mid-century modern decor should be retired, I’m thinking I wouldn’t mind one of those La-z-boy Womb Chairs!
What are your thoughts on mid-century modern decor and this cartoon? Should it be retired or would you rather retire on one of these pieces?

Nørd is the resulting work of David Fabio Geckeler , a Berlin-based industrial designer. Geckeler recently completed his studies at the University of Arts in Berlin. His Nørd chair means “nerd” or “geek” in Danish, which he describes as the fundamental character of the chair.

An elegant paneled lighting system formed from six identical natural Birch plywood elements (from responsible sources), the Bud series of lampshades are manufactured in the UK by people who share their values and our commitment: which is to reduce air miles and support the Made in England marque. Desinature are showing in the Launchpad section at Pulse , June 10-12, 2012.

From the moment I spotted Soapbox furniture, I was hooked. Ready to assemble, flat-packed, and made in the USA – what more can you ask for? Oh yeah, the furniture requires no tools to assemble it! I love the fact that they are made with plywood that is covered in hardwood veneers, as opposed to MDF and particleboard that most flat-packed furniture is made from.
