Thread Bench Made from Bent Metal by Ola Giertz

Swedish furniture and product designer Ola Giertz created the Thread Bench , which looks like metal easily bent and twisted into the finished shape. In actuality, the bars of metal are manually bent by both cold and warm forging, a much more labor-intensive process. Watch this: Inspired by a child’s playful outlook at the world, Giertz wanted an asymmetrical, “lighthearted style” to reflect that and asked the question, “Why does everything have to be so perfect and tidy looking?” The bench appears chaotic, opposite of most work found in furniture design, but still has a sense of playfulness. Box 1-7 by Pekka Kuivamäki for BeaMalevich

Box 1-7 , created by Finnish designer Pekka Kuivamäki, is one nifty shelving system. Each box fits inside of each other like Russian nesting dolls. Barcelona-based BeaMalevich launched the easily assembled modular shelf to contrast the shape of every other shelf out there. Box 1-7 is composed of seven simple cubes that hang from a single nail on the wall. Each cube hangs from a hand-woven leather rope and can be rearranged to your liking

Jufuku Bamboo Furniture

jufuku

Created by Kenyon Yeh, the Jufuku Bamboo Collection consists of a table, stool and cabinet. Each piece is made from sustainable, lightweight bamboo.

As Jufuku means to overlap or repeat in Japanese, Kenyon Yeh used a single shape to begin each piece. He then repeated that single shape to complete each design and create an end result.  By looking at each piece in the collection, the repeating shape in each is easily identifiable.

B-line

B-line will exhibit some of its latest pieces at Salone this month (man, I really need to go next year!). Quby, designed by Stefan Bench, is an incredible and versatile bookcase module made in rotomoulded polyethylene. The shape is really original and the colors are catchy — kind of like Spring. Quby is versatile: it can be hung on the wall or rest on the floor. The same could be said about Splash, with a watchful eye this stool will remind about your childhood, not only for the colors, but also because it looks like a king’s crown, although Kristian Aus, the designer, was inspired by a raindrop touching ground
