Krenit Bowls by Normann Copenhagen

Normann Copenhagen has re-introduced the Krenit bowl, designed in 1953 by Herbert Krenchel, a civil engineer. The launch comes after the designer approached Normann Copenhagen founders Poul Madsen and Jan Andersen about resuming production, which ceased in 1966 when enamel fell from favor and competent factories shut down. Herbert Krenchel says this about his design: “In 1953 the idea was to make a beautiful bowl, preferably so functional and delicate that it was equally suited for use in the kitchen, on the dining table and as a decoration in the sitting room. As a material researcher I really concentrated on getting the different materials to  look good together as well as making them equally compatible to use together.” Originally manufactured with an enamel interior in eight colors and nine sizes, the Krenit is now produced in steel with a melamine interior in five colors: white, black, turquoise, purple, lime and red

Praktrik Puzzle Furniture

Bulgarian product designer Petar Zaharinov has introduced a new collection, Coordinate , under his Prakrik label. Like his other lines of “puzzle furniture,” the pieces are inspired by interlocking, wooden burr puzzles, and meant to stimulate some intelligence from the user. The components, which fit together without the use of tools, are made from beech plywood produced locally and finished with natural plant oil

A-Z by Sascha Grewe

As part of the DMY 2011 Asia Exhibition tour , which presented innovative German design objects and products at seven different fairs and festivals in Asia, Sascha Grewe exhibited his A-Z stools / tables with storage. The A-Z stools are made of MDF and are available in — get this — 250 colors! The stools can be used as seats, side tables, shelves or simply as typographical objects. I don’t think I’m ready to see this alphabet furniture trend go just yet.

Rhizome by Matali Crasset

Designed by Matali Crasset for Arturo Alvarez , Rhizome is a modern chandelier made from metal that resembles a mobile. Each arm branches out from a central spine and then repeats to create a contemporary effect. This is definitely one of those pieces I see that make me say “Wow.
