Now, I know what you’re thinking — “oh no, not another one.” But before you run away, Fab.com is geared toward modern design. For their grand opening sale, which started this morning, they have Emeco 111 Navy chairs (I have one of these and it’s amazing), Plumen light bulbs, signed Milton Glaser posters, and selections from the Museum Of Arts & Design.

Nir Meiri ‘s 19 Pots project was inspired by an examination of the rural landscape. Using disposable plant pots painted gold inside, 19 flower pots become radiant lampshades. The 19 Pots lamps are currently on display at the Paradigma Design Gallery in Tel Aviv as part of the Gold Mine exhibition through July 8th 2011

Beam is a small table lamp that is focused on the materials and feeling at the interaction moment with the user. Created by Christian Vivanco , Beam is made of a solid block of pine and a thermoformed mma sheet. Christian explains that the project came about accidentally after talking with various local lumberyards, “There I got the chance to realize how beautiful wood can be against an urban background, planks and beams stacked one above the other, some of them rough and other refined. Then it struck me, how interesting it could be to give proper respect to the material and its basic physical qualities; weight, texture, appearance, etc.” Intrigued by the possible relationship between a visibly heavy object and something ephemeral and inert as light, Christian selected materials that seemed to fit together perfectly into a pre-defined grid. To enhance the lamp’s relationship with the user, he rounded the edges, creating a hugging effect of the hand when holding the lamp.

In the BKLYN DESIGNS booth at ICFF I spotted these cool architectural birdhouses by IMAKE Studio . Made in either cedar or mahogany in the USA, these modern birdhouses were originally designed at the request of a client. Developed specifically for small birds like wrens, finches, chickadees, nuthatches, and titmice, there is also a wire mesh “ladder” on the interior to aid in first flight operations of the young chicks.
