Pteleobius Lamp by Vaslyaev Maxim

Russian designer Vaslyaev Maxim has created the Pteleobius Lamp. Pteleobius is a genus of beetles of bark beetle family. These beetles enter fallen trees and create unique patterns in which to lay their larvae. Using one of these “engraved” elm trees, Vaslyaev Maxim attached a chrome-plated pipe to emit the light onto the surface of the tree branch

Piana Chair

During Salone , Alessi will be presenting in Via Manzoni, the heart of Milan, a new project by English architect David Chipperfield. The Piana chair is a new type of product for the Crusinallo-based company — it’s a folding chair produced under license with Parma-based company Lamm. Piana is made from polypropylene reinforced with fibreglass with A.U.V. additives and matte, anti-slip surfaces. Produced in six different colors, the seat has a synchronized opening and closing system that rotates about a single point.

Roofer by Benjamin Hubert

Benjamin Hubert will launch a new series of lighting called Roofer for Italian lighting company Fabbian . Inspired by roof tiles found in Marrakech a single “tile” is used to clad various steel frame works. This allows for different shaped lamps to be created from a single tile. The consumer can build their own lamp from a framework and selection of different colored tiles, allowing for customization as the end user becomes part of the design process. The tile is manufactured from a flexible silicon polymer which both allows the module to be formed around a compound curvature framework as well as allowing some light through its translucent structure

Coat Check Chair by Joey Zeledón

The Coat Check Chair by Joey Zeledón is still a concept, but I think this is one chair worth being made. It takes plastic hangers and puts them over a steel tubular frame to create a seat. FAVN by Jaime Hayon for Fritz Hansen

FAVN is the Danish name for embrace, but now it’s also a new sofa by Jaime Hayón for Fritz Hansen . “I wanted the sofa to be based on a shell. A shell being hard on the outside, soft and welcoming on the inside,” explains Hayón. “I wanted to create a form that embraces you, something really organic — that’s why we named it FAVN.” FAVN will be available in ten color selections: light grey, sage green, clear beige, taupe, chocolate, moutarde, red, violet, dark blue and black.

L’Oiseau by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec

L’Oiseau is a wooden bird sculpture by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for Vitra that offers a nod to the Eames House Bird . It is a simple bird with no function, just an accessory. Or perhaps a playfriend.
