Industrial designer Yves Béhar is making his curatorial debut in San Francisco this July in a major design exhibition called TechnoCRAFT. Marijn van der Poll’s Do Hit Chair for Droog TechnoCRAFT, which will be on exhibit at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, will chart current movements blurring the traditional boundary between designer and consumer and look at the different ways that consumers are personalizing design in efforts to assert creativity and individuality in an age of mass-production and mass-consumerism.

My first day in Chicago for NeoCon was overwhelming to say the least. Despite the terrible phone reception, slow Internet and lack of elevators, I think I accomplished quite a bit my first day. I was only there for two days, so I tried to squeeze in as much as possible. One thing I definitely will need to know from you, readers, is whether you are in the contract business (I sense a poll coming on…) I hope you’re sitting down, this one is a long one

Zeitraum’s 2010 collection combines sculptural designs with contemporary refinement. In a departure from all-wood accents, ceramic is integrated beautifully with the new Apu designed by Hanna Ehlers. The Apu makes entertaining easy with its removable ceramic top and solid wood base (walnut, oak, or ash). Versatility is key and Apu may be utilized as a side table, serving tray, or vase

I checked out the 1dEGOFF Light Play booth at ICFF, and they had some very cute, trendy lighting. 1degOFF is a brand and design initiative that showcases and retails limited edition furniture and art objects that are created and made in Singapore. The design/art group was created by Bacus Boo, who wanted to create a platform for emerging local talent to showcase their work and help them in their quest to gain international recognition and exposure. Light Play, 1dEGOFF’s exhibition at ICFF is a “lively, playful, inventive tour de force and masterful exploration of the celestial Light and the lightness of Matter. This collection of objects begin with a discourse expression of Light and its lightness away from the conventional association with a lamp.
